Kes bekas perisik: SPRM
rampas tunai AS$6.3 juta...

Penyiasat antirasuah merampas sejumlah wang tunai sebanyak AS$6.3 juta dari beberapa lokasi semasa siasatan Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) terhadap dakwaan penyelewengan oleh bekas para pegawai risikan kerajaan.

Jumlah terbesar AS$4.07 juta ditemui di sebuah kondominium sewa di Cyberjaya malam tadi, sejurus selepas pihak berkuasa menahan seorang ahli perniagaan di Kelantan.

Timbalan Ketua Pesuruhjaya SPRM, Datuk Seri Azam Baki memberitahu pemberita pada sidang akhbar hari ini pihaknya masih mencari kira-kira AS$5 juta, yang dianggap sebagai hak milik kerajaan persekutuan.

No automatic alt text available.

MACC seizes another US$4 million in Hasanah-related case

Image may contain: 1 person, text
Najib’s Intelligence Chief Hasanah
Was A Shameless Thief ...

The disgraced Intelligence Chief – Hasanah Abdul Hamid – has finally been arrested, but for different charges. The former director-general of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) had previously lodged a police report over a letter she sent to the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency apparently soliciting for support for ex-premier Najib Razak.

She wanted the police to investigate the whistle-blower because the letter falls under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). Her evil plan was to hide behind the OSA when in reality, the woman spy chief had committed the highest degree of treasonous and treacherous act when she wrote to invite foreign power to interfere in the sovereignty of Malaysia.

There are many ways to skin a cat. The higher a crook is in an organization hierarchy, the tougher it gets to prosecute them. Al-Capone, American most notorious gangster, practically controlled Chicago like his private business. He was untouchable by the U.S. authorities for years. The ultimate brilliant strategy that managed to put him in federal prison was prosecuting him in 1931 for tax evasion.

Who would have thought that a simple tool such as tax evasion was all it took to skin the American most brutal gangster? Likewise, for reasons known only to Royal Malaysia Police, they have no intention of charging Ms. Hasanah for treasonous and treacherous act, despite her admission to the authenticity of the letters sent to CIA Director Gina Cheri Haspel.

Thanks to 61 years of culture of corruption spread by previous Barisan Nasional coalition government, every institution in the country has caught the disease, one way or another. Not only the chief of Malaysia’s national security covert intelligence agency was entrusted by her boss Najib to write to CIA, she was also tasked with transferring some money to a secret location.

Monkey see monkey do, as the saying goes. Perhaps they were inspired by Najib’s looting and plundering. So, while her officers from the “Research Division” of the Prime Minister’s Department were transporting money after Barisan Nasional lost the May 9th general election, they couldn’t resist but helped themselves to the cash – reportedly about US$400,000 (RM1.6 million).

Treason Letter to CIA - Najib Razak and Hasanah Abdul Hamid

Hasanah Abdul Hamid was arrested when she was called to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters for interrogation. Prior to her arrest, seven civil servants from the intelligence agency known as the “Research Division”, including a diplomatic officer, were remanded in investigations into the alleged misappropriation of 14th general election funds.

When she was produced at the Magistrate’s Court here this morning, Hasanah was dressed in the infamous orange lock-up attire and wearing a “purple tudung” (veil or headscarf). Handcuffed, the former intelligence chief covered her face from being photographed by journalists, presumably too ashamed over her crimes.

Like other guilty criminals, covering her face suggests that she most likely had indeed helped herself to the stash of cash. She is being charged under Section 23 of the MACC Act for the abuse of power. If found guilty, the Bond girl could face up to maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of 5 times the value of the gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

It appears that Hasanah and her boys aren’t that different from the 17 security personnel who were remanded for taking cash amounting to RM3.5 million from the Prime Minister’s Office. Still, the amount of cash that Hasanah was transporting raises another question – why ex-PM Najib Razak entrusted the spy agency to transport the election fund?

By Najib’s own admission, there were RM117 million cash in his children’s’ luxury condominium, RM3.5 million cash in his office and now RM1.6 million cash being transported by the intelligence agency. From where did Najib manage to raise so much money, if not stolen from the national coffers? It’s quite amazing that a spy chief was nothing but a cheapskate thief. - ft

JJ’s RM2 Billion Fortune Opens Up A Can Of Worms – Malaysia Has At Least 200 Billionaires...

Who says Malay-Muslims are dirt poor? Those who think so should get their head examined. The ethnic Malays should celebrate because at least 200 of their Muslim brothers (and sisters) are actually billionaires. In fact, Malaysia should be ranked third, behind the United States (680 billionaires) and China (338) but ahead of Germany (152), on the list of countries with the most billionaires.

The problem is this – those 200 billionaires cannot disclose their wealth because they got it by plundering, looting and stealing peoples’ money. Yes, they are mostly politicians from the previous Barisan Nasional government. Such conclusion is arrived when the mother of the late Jamaluddin Jarjis filed for “faraid (wealth distribution)” certificate at the Syariah court over his RM2.082 billion estate.

Jamaluddin Jarjis, popularly known as JJ, who died in a helicopter crash in 2015, was a very close friend of former Prime Minister Najib Razak. Sure, we should not bitch about dead people. But hey, we didn’t start it. It was his 85-year-old mother who has actually opened a can of worms that has gotten millions of tongues wagging on social media.

Besides, just because JJ was dead doesn’t mean his extraordinary wealth cannot be questioned. If a man’s ill-gotten fortune is automatically made legitimate after he died, then drug lord Pablo Escobar, gangster Al-Capone and dictator Ferdinand Marcos’s dirty money should become legitimate overnight and belonged to their family members after their death.

The fact that JJ’s mother, Aminah Abdullah, is forced to go to court to get her fair share of wealth speaks volumes that there is probably family feud going on for the RM2.1 billion estate. Under the Shariah Law, the mother gets one-sixth of the estate’s assets, the wife gets one-eighth and the remainder is shared among the children.

The assets in dispute include 22 landed properties in Pahang and Kuala Lumpur, 21 bank accounts with a total of more than RM15 million, several properties in the United States and Mecca, as well as a company he owned. Aminah is questioning how her son could have allegedly given some of the property, which includes 19 companies, to his four children.

Image result for ibui jamaluddin jarjis tuntut

One-sixth of RM2.1 billion is worth a staggering RM350 million. That’s a truckload of money for Mr. Jamaluddin’s mother. But the jaw-dropping question here isn’t about wheelchair-bound Aminah claiming her share of the inheritance. The flabbergasted question everyone is wondering is how Jamaluddin Jarjis could accumulate such a massive fortune.

As former Rompin Member of Parliament from 1990 until his death, JJ was one of 191 UMNO warlords who get to decide the prime minister of the country. He was Second Minister of Finance (2002-2004), Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (2004), Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (2004-2008) and Ambassador to the U.S. (2009-2012).

While it’s not nice to badmouth a dead man, its worth to note that like his buddy Najib Razak, Jamaluddin Jarjis wasn’t a saint when come to pretty girls. We’re talking about a minister – Jamaluddin Jarjis – who was allegedly to have molested a female worker in the Havana Club at a five-star hotel – Hotel Meridien – in Kuala Lumpur back in April 2008.

Amazingly, barely hours after the incident, the victim whose buttock was grabbed withdrew her statutory complaint against JJ, with rumours that she was paid millions to keep her mouth shut. The case was never heard again. To save his close buddy from potential trouble, Prime Minister Najib posted JJ to America as Malaysia’s Ambassador.

Jamaluddin Jarjis was also somehow involved in the 1MDB scandal when it was exposed in 2016 that Goldman Sachs hired Anis Jamaludin, daughter of Jamaluddin Jarjis, as far back as 2010. Ms Anis worked for Goldman as an investment banking analyst in Singapore from July to November 2010. Tim Leissner, then Goldman’s co-president for Southeast Asia, was working to forge closer business ties in Malaysia.

It is believed that the idea of 1Malaysia Peoples’ Housing Scheme (PR1MA) was mooted by JJ. Last year, the then-PM Najib Razak revealed that the PR1MA Malaysia had awarded more than RM15 billion worth of contracts to 574 Bumiputera firms. Overall, PR1MA had awarded more than RM22.4 billion worth of contracts to its business partners – comprising developers, contractors as well as vendors.

PRIMA PR1MA Homes - Jamaluddin Jarjis and Najib Razak

Yet, despite Najib’s promise to build hundreds of thousands of the affordable housing for the people – every year – the fact remains only 11,944 units of PR1MA homes have been sold by November, 2017, as admitted by former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim. Interestingly, JJ was actually the Chairman of 1Malaysia Peoples’ Housing Scheme (PR1MA).

Had he benefited from the scheme through kickbacks during the process of awarding the contracts, hence, resulting in under delivery of housing for the people? PR1MA is clearly a cash cow where the chairman could easily enrich himself. JJ had only served the Cabinet as minister for a short period from 2002 to 2008 and he was already worth a mind-boggling RM2.1 billion.

Therefore, it’s not an exaggeration to estimate that the newly crowned UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is worth conservatively RM20 billion. As the former Deputy Prime Minister, not to mention his past important portfolio in Defence Ministry and Home Ministry, there’s little doubt that Mr. Zahid possesses 10 times more wealth than JJ. Not bad for a Malay who spoke very little English.

Two years ago, Mr. Zahid courted controversial when his plan to import 1.5 million Bangladesh workers into the country was exposed. Using his brother Abdul Hakim Hamidi as his proxy, each cheap labour would be charged RM3,000 – potentially generating a cool revenue of RM4.5 billion for the Hamidi family. The project was believed to have proceeded secretly.

Heck, it’s safe to presume all the 191 UMNO warlords have reached the billion ringgit milestone in their capacity as division chiefs who determine the fate of the UMNO president. All the 191 UMNO warlords have their own pet projects to enrich themselves. That was how the Malaysian prime minister, by virtue of being UMNO president, kept his power.

For example, Haris Onn Hussein, the brother of former Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein Onn has a 20.16% stake in Ekovest, a company awarded the contract to build the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) at a cost of RM3.738 billion with a concession period with the Government for 53½ years. That’s a cash cow the Hussein family can milk for half a century.

Even a Tier-3 UMNO warlords such as Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (pix, below) – nicknamed “Six Million Dollar Man” for his role in offering bribe to the tune of RM6 million for his UMNO division chief post – was already a billionaire years ago. This is the same Tajuddin who screamed until foaming at the mouth warning the Malay-Muslims about “Christianity, Chinese and Communist”.

Image result for Tajuddin Rahman

Amusingly, his own “Ali Baba” company – Detik Utuh Sdn Bhd – was a partner with Chinese-based Crest Builder Holdings Bhd in a 49:51 equity participation involved in building Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Tapah campus in Perak in 2013. Crest Builder had put the university’s construction cost at RM285.89 million.

While the construction cost was nothing to shout about, Mr. Tajuddin was given a cool 23-year concession to setup and maintain the campus, at a staggering RM1.3 billion. Essentially, Tajuddin’s Detik Utuh, an inactive construction company with no prior performance record in the industry, has been milking RM56.5 million every year for maintaining “new buildings”.

Like UMNO’s 191 division chiefs, their comrades from the 191 MCA division chiefs were believed to have done quite well too. For example, MCA Deputy President Wee Ka Siong, despite being mocked and laughed off as “Cry Baby Wee”, became an instant billionaire through his pet project – the RM12 billion PKFZ scandal – first hatched in 2001.

According to Forbes, there are 17 Malaysian billionaires in terms of US dollar in net worth. There are more if the fortune is measured in Malaysian Ringgit. Adding these 17 Malaysian business owners to the 191 UMNO warlords and voila, you have more than 200 billionaires. And we have not even talked about family members of politicians who become billionaire due to nepotism or using crooked means.

Nazifuddin, second son of ex-premier Najib Razak is a jolly good case study. Mr. Nazifuddin was linked to a Get-Rich-Ponzi-Scheme called UFUN. In 2015, all hell broke loose when the uFun Store had allegedly swindled 120,000 people involving at least 38 billion Baht (US$1.13 billion, £720 million, RM4 billion) in Thailand.

UFUN Ponzi Scheme - Nazifuddin Najib Razak, Lt Gen Athiwat Soonpan, Warren Eu

Now, will it be an exaggeration to suggest that Najib’s net worth is at least RM100 billion? In the same breath, those who believe that the ethnic Chinese were rich because they have robbed the Malays should think again. At least, they should be proud UMNO has produced 191 Malay billionaires, more than the Chinese. Jamaluddin Jarjis is the clearest proof!! - ft

ADAKAH REALISTIK HARGA TAWARAN RM 10 BILLION KOS BINA ECRL ?

Posted by Kerah Lekung on Wednesday, 29 August 2018

ADAKAH REALISTIK HARGA TAWARAN RM 10 BILLION KOS BINA ECRL ? .

1. Keretapi laju menghubungkan lapangan terbang Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-Tapao di Thailand diluluskan pada 2018. US$7.2 bilion (RM29.5 bilion) bagi 260km = RM113 juta bagi setiap kilometer.

Forest City - Sultan vs Mahathir-China...
Image result for FOREST CITY & SULTAN JOHOR

2. Pemilikan DYMM Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ismail dalam projek Forest City dilaporkan wartawan MalaysiaKini, Nigel Aw dalam laporan bertarikh 14 Julai 2014 yang bertajuk ‘The Case of Forest City and the Johor Sultan’ (https://ift.tt/2BToLu2) manakala dalam edisi Bahasa Melayu bertajuk ‘Alkisah Forest City dan Sultan Johor’ (https://ift.tt/2y9xwgw).

3. Forest City diusahakan oleh kerjasama China-Johor melalui Country Garden Pacific View (CGPV).  Sebanyak 66 peratus pegangan CGPV dikuasai oleh tiga syarikat gergasi China iaitu Country Garden Waterfront Sdn Bhd, Country Garden Danga Bay Sdn Bhd, dan Country Garden Real Estate Sdn Bhd.

4. Baki 34 peratus pegangan CGPV dimiliki Kerajaan negeri Johor iaitu Esplanade Danga 88 Sdn Bhd.

5. Baginda Sultan Ibrahim merupakan pemilik saham terbesar Esplanade Danga 88 Sdn Bhd, dengan kawalan pegangan 64.4 peratus syarikat berkenaan.  Kerajaan negeri Johor melalui Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) pula hanya menguasai sekitar 20 peratus saham dalam syarikat tersebut.

Image result for FOREST CITY & SULTAN JOHOR

10. Malah, Tun Mahathir sebelum ini turut mengisytiharkan bahawa ‘Tembok Besar China di Kuantan’ perlu dirobohkan – merujuk pada struktur projek Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP). Baca seterusnya...

""One thing is certain, the city that is going to be built cannot be sold to foreigners," he told a press conference after the opening of the Cities 4.0 + Business 4.0 conference here today.

"We are not going to give visas for people to come and live here. Our objection (towards this project) is because it was built for foreigners, not built for Malaysians.''

Overseas buyers will no longer be allowed to purchase homes in the US$100 billion Forest City development in Johor, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

"One thing is certain, the city that is going to be built cannot be sold to foreigners," he told a press conference after the opening of the Cities 4.0 + Business 4.0 conference here today.

"We are not going to give visas for people to come and live here. Our objection (towards this project) is because it was built for foreigners, not built for Malaysians.

"Most Malaysians are unable to buy these (apartments)," Dr Mahathir added.

The property and lifestyle development is being developed by Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Hong Kong-based Country Garden Group and Esplanade Danga 88 Sdn Bhd, an associate company of state-owned Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor.

The 14 sq km development rests on four artificial islands off Johor and has a gross development value of RM444 billion, including an American international school that has just been launched and a golf course that is expected to be completed later this year.

Mainland Chinese reportedly constitute 70% of Forest City buyers. Forest City, which had sold as many as 16,000 units as at May last year, has seen sales of its properties hit when capital controls imposed by Beijing dissuaded Chinese buyers.

Country Garden also has other projects in Malaysia including Country Garden Diamond City in Semenyih, Selangor; Country Garden Central Park in Tampoi and Country Garden Danga Bay, both in Johor Baru. - f/bk

- f/bk

MCA President Chua Soi Lek - Sex DVD Scandal - Admission
In The Land Of The Cowards, “Sex Actor” Chua Soi Lek Could Become The King (Again)...

Like former UMNO president Najib Razak, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai is game over. After losing his Bentong constituency in the recent general election, it shows Mr. Liow has performed worse than his deputy, Wee Ka Siong. Not even his drama – playing badminton with superstar Lee Chong Wei and AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes – could help him retain Bentong.

Liow Tiong Lai has been, arguably, the worst MCA president the Chinese-based party has ever produced since its establishment. Last year, with just months before the 14th general election is called, around 6,000 people had been expected to attend the “Better Beer Festival”, showcasing craft beers from at least 11 countries. It was shut down.

Islamic party PAS accused it as “pesta maksiat (vice party)”, claiming that it would turn Kuala Lumpur into the “largest vice centre in Asia”. Najib administration, desperate for the support from the extreme and radical PAS party, agreed to pull the plug on the annual beer festival. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun obediently disallowed the festival.

The police chief conveniently claimed he had received information that militants planned to “disturb the event”. The funny part about the huff and puff cooked up by the previous government was the fact that the beer festival was only applicable to non-Muslims. The Muslims were not invited. In fact, Muslims were prohibited from the beer festival.

When the minority non-Muslims, especially the Chinese, had nowhere to turn but to MCA, its president Liow Tiong Lai failed miserably. He didn’t lift a finger to protect the Chinese right for a pint or two. Already known as a corrupt lapdog, Mr. Liow quickly agreed with then-premier Najib Razak and the beer festival was cancelled, much to the anger of fans of beer.

Cry Baby Wee

The beer festival fiasco was just one of many examples of continuous discrimination, suppression and oppression against the Malaysian Chinese. From seven parliamentary seats, the MCA was slaughtered on May 9th by the same community it claimed to represent, reducing the Malaysian Chinese Association to just one seat, its worst since founded in 1949.

With Liow Tiong Lai out of the picture, the ambitious Deputy President Wee Ka Siong has made his plan known to contest the party’s top post during the party polls in November. But Mr. Wee is no better than his boss Mr. Liow. Wee is known as the “Cry Baby Wee” who burst into tears after being dropped from MCA presidential council by the party’s president – Ong Tee Keat in 2009.

Don’t be fooled by Wee’s eloquent in Malay, Mandarin and English though. Together with Bintulu Mafia Chief Tiong King Sing, Mr. Wee became billionaire looting and plundering taxpayers’ money in the PKFZ scandal. Yes, if Najib Razak has his 1MDB scandal, Wee Ka Siong’s pet project was PKFZ. So far, the RM12 billion PKFZ scandal has turned into one with no culprits.

But it will not going to be a walk in the park for Wee Ka Siong in his attempt to be crowned as MCA next president. Former vice-president Gan Ping Sieu has confirmed his intention to contest for the post too. The young Gan will be no match to the super-rich and cunning Wee. Another president-wannabe Yew Teong Look, the biggest MCA gangster, is rumoured to be interested too.

None of those candidates have a remote chance of beating Wee except Chua Soi Lek who was implicated in a sex tape scandal in 2008 but mounted a comeback to become MCA president in 2010. Following MCA’s horrible performance in the 2013 general elections, Mr. Chua has kept silence and went into political exile after Liow Tiong Lai took over the party.

Little did Chua know that his leadership that brought the party to the laughable 7-11 (7 parliamentary seats and 11 state seats) wasn’t that disastrous after all. His successor, Liow, would lead the party to a more pathetic and humiliating defeat 5 years down the road – winning only 1 parliamentary and 2 state seat – and becomes the opposition for the first time since independence in 1957.

MCA grassroots are pretty excited about the rumours that their former president Chua may make a comeback to lead them. Mocked and insulted as a “sex actor”, Mr. Chua was setup by both Wee Ka Siong and Liow Tiong Lai, and the grassroots knew it. The four-star Hotel Katerina in quiet Batu Pahat was the place where Chua Soi Lek engaged in an extra-marital affair with a young woman.

Chua’s mistake was bonking his “woman friend” – Ms Angela Yam – in the same hotel in the same room for convenience sake. Four cameras hidden in the suite recorded him having sex without his knowledge. The scumbags Wee and Liow, after recorded their president with his pants down, would later make copies and distributed the video for all and sundry to enjoy.

Inspired by the return of 93-year-old Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister for the second time, Chua may just do the same. Amusingly, some MCA grassroots still admire their ex-president. Unlike “cry baby” Wee, Chua’s courage in admitting to being the person in the sex video 10 years ago in 2008 before resigning, was quite legendary and commendable.

Interestingly, Chua Soi Lek was one of Najib’s biggest supporters during the peak of 1MDB scandal in 2015. When former MCA president Ling Liong Sik parroted his former boss (Mahathir), agreeing that “Najib has taken peoples’ money and put it in his own personal accounts”, Chua came to Najib’s defence in 2015 – claiming that the PM was the only leader who had pledged to fund MCA.

Related image

The best part came when Chua Soi Lek subsequently revealed that Prime Minister Najib Razak had helped in the drafting of the speech from which the MCA leader read out on television admitting he was the person in the sex video, which by then had circulated in the form of DVDs. Chua said – “He thought I wrote it in a way that was too rigid, (so) he edited it for me.”

Yes, like two good friends in a primary school, Chua had nothing but praises for Najib for helping with his homework – editing and finetuning an admission speech over the sex scandal. The MCA leader tried very hard to market Najib as a kind-hearted person who would help friends in trouble. It’s not hard to understand why Najib was more than willing to help Chua.

In 1995, the then-Defence Minister Najib Razak was allegedly caught “khalwat” with his pants down with actress Ziana Zain in a Port Dickson hotel room.  If witness Balasubramaniam’s Statutory Declaration is reliable, Mr. Najib had performed anal intercourse with Mongolian beauty Altantuya, before she was murdered by his military bodyguards.

However, unlike Najib, Wee or Liow, Chua was a very brave man who not only admitted to extra-marital affair, he had also gone on stage to debate with then-opposition DAP Lim Guan Eng. In comparison, PM Najib Razak had chickened out numerous times in debates or questionnaire session, including his owned-organised “Nothing to Hide (#Nothing2Hide)” forum.

In truth, Wee Ka Siong can do very little to rejuvenate MCA. He is seen as a coward or eunuch who dared not stood up to UMNO’s years of bullying. The party desperately needs young and new talents. More importantly, it lacks a courageous leader to drive them to a new direction. So far, Mr. Wee has nothing new to offer. Mr. Chua could become MCA president again. - ft

Anwar menjawab,"seseorang seperti Naib Presiden KEADILAN, Mohd Rafizi Ramli."

Anwar sebut nama Rafizi dua kali

Mantan perdana menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak berhadapan tujuh pertuduhan jenayah melibatkan SRC International, bekas anak syarikat 1MDB.

- f/bk

Hishammuddin’s Military Bodyguards – A Result Of 61 Years Of Abuse Of Power and UMNO Supremacy...

Hishammuddin Hussein, the former Defence Minister, was on the right track to become Malaysia’s 7th Prime Minister when the unexpected happened on May 9th this year. His cousin who was also the former premier, scandal-plagued Prime Minister Najib Razak, was booted from the powerful post by the people who had had enough of the same government for 61 years.

For more than 10 years, Mr. Hishammuddin, the son of the country’s third prime minister, was best remembered as the then-ruling UMNO warlord who took to the stage waving “keris (Malay dagger)”. The display of the weapon was a sign understood to mean second-class citizen non-Malay should and must “kowtow” to the supremacy of UMNO-Malay.

Like Mr. Najib, whose father was the country’s second prime minister, Hishammuddin would continue one of Malaysia’s oldest political dynasties. Despite complaints that the gesture of dagger-waving had made Malaysia’s minority races feel uncomfortable, Mr. Hishammuddin unleashed the “keris” for the fourth year in 2009. Arrogantly, he even kissed the dagger in defiance.

But 2009 was also the year Hishammuddin retired his famous “keris”. A year earlier, the 2008 general election saw the UMNO-led coalition deserted by ethnic Chinese and Indians.  It marked the first time since the 1969 election that the Barisan Nasional coalition did not win a two-thirds supermajority in the Malaysian Parliament required to pass amendments to the Malaysian Constitution.

Hishammuddin became one of UMNO’s three vice-presidents since March 2009, until the defeat of the long ruling government under his cousin Najib’s leadership in May 2018. His future looked very promising and his rise seemed unstoppable. His leadership in the 2013 Lahad Datu invasion by militants from the Philippines was, however, a great disappointment.

Hishammuddin Hussein - Keris Waving and Kissing

Like his cousin Najib, the man born with a silver spoon had underestimated the seriousness of the incursion. The 235 militants, labelled by Home Minister Hishammuddin as old and malnourished intruders who wore sarongs and slipper with very few arms, humiliated the braggart and inexperienced minister when 6 civilians and 10 Malaysian security forces were killed.

Sending a boy to do a man’s job was a disaster. Had the boy scout Hishammuddin acted professionally and leave the military to do their job, the threat of the Philippines militants would not have had been misread. The poor soldiers, police and civilians might not have died in vain. Both Armed Forces Chief Gen Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar were a joke too.

It would take a few days after the intruders were sighted on Malaysian shores before Malaysia security forces could establish the Sulu militants’ identity and intention. It was when the intruders had flown their flag to challenge the country’s sovereignty that Hishammuddin realized the drama was actually an invasion. Even then, he was super optimistic of overpowering the militants.

Ever since the country’s independence in 1957, until May 19th, 2018, the Malaysian Armed Forces knew only UMNO as the government of the day. The supremacy of UMNO party was hammered into the head of every military personnel, so much so that empty vessel like Hishammuddin was seen as Kim Jong-un, whose opinion and instruction was taken as religious sacred texts.

So, when the new Defence Minister Mat Sabu revealed that only four out of RMAF’s 28 Russian fighter jets can fly, not a single general or chief of the military branches – Army, Air Force, and Navy – was surprised with the embarrassing revelation. None was offended that the military forces have been reduced to such a pariah state under previous incompetent and corrupt UMNO leaders.

The Malaysian Armed Forces were in such a deplorable situation that former Hishammuddin Hussein continued to enjoy military protection even after the previous UMNO-led government collapsed more than 3 months ago. Apparently, two Navy special operations force (Paskal) officers and a commando were still working as escorts for Mr. Hishammuddin.

Hishammuddin Hussein - UMNO Assembly 2016 Speech

When caught with his pants down, Hishammudin, like his serial liar cousin Najib, claims that the military bodyguards were part of his security detail for a “temporary period”. In what appears to be an afterthought response, he has also claimed that the three Armed Forces personnel have been given offers of employment. He didn’t specify when he offered the employment though.

However, according to Hishammuddin Hussein, if the three accept his so-called offers, they must resign from the Armed Forces with immediate effect. The disgraceful ex-defence minister, amusingly, could not explain why the three military bodyguards were drawing salaries from Defence Forces as well as from him, if indeed there were job offers in the first place.

Obviously, there has been abuse of power in the scandal. Make no mistake about it. Had the misused of military resources not exposed publicly, Mr. Hishammuddin would most likely keep quiet and continue enjoying the military escorts despite the fact he was no longer holding the defence ministry portfolio following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 14th general election.

The simple fact that the three military bodyguards were getting two salaries from different employers is sufficient to be court martialled. Even if it’s not treasonous, it’s a blatant disloyalty to the Agong (King) and a national security threat. A public servant or private employee caught working for two employers at the same time will certainly be fired, sued or blacklisted.

Hishammuddin Hussein - Holding Keris Dagger

But the three military personnel would not dare go against the rules of the Armed Forces unless their immediate commanding officers, and higher up the chain of command, approved such despicable act. It isn’t that difficult to see how the entire military forces were corrupted and abused by the tentacles of UMNO after 61 years of indoctrination – the UMNO Supremacy.

Just weeks before the nationwide election, Armed Forces Chief Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor had urged both the troops and police to be grateful and loyal to the government led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Yes, that scumbag general could not care less about the Agong (King) but instead had indulged in politics and sucked up to Thief-in-Chief Najib.

Hishammuddin has already admitted that the three military bodyguards were indeed working for him (while sucking another pay-check from the taxpayers). The burning question is how wide the scope of abuse of power is within the Malaysian Armed Forces. It doesn’t make sense that nobody within the military forces realize three of their colleagues have not been punching for work.

If the three military bodyguards could freely conduct their own business without giving two hoots about existing rules such as Armed Forces Act 1972, then perhaps it’s alright to sell military assets to earn extra monthly income. As a former defence minister, Hishammuddin knew about the rules and protocols but broke them anyway. He should at least be charged for abuse of power. ft

- mk

What next for unelected 'Jedi Council'
of eminent persons...

Within days of the historic election that ended the Barisan Nasional’s 60-year grip on power in Malaysia, the country’s new leader Mahathir Mohamad set up the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) – five prominent Malaysians tasked with advising the fledgling government on how to deal with the nation’s most pressing problems within 100 days.

Now the mandate of the body – dubbed by some as Malaysia’s ‘Jedi council’ – is complete and the recommendations are to be presented to Mahathir upon his return from an official visit to China this week. However, the proposals are not for public consumption.

This secrecy – coupled with Mahathir’s statement that the CEP would not be dissolved just yet as there was still need for them – has fuelled debate among the public and opposition members.

“Malaysians have the right to know what the recommendations are and the government’s road map for implementation,” said political analyst James Chin, director of the Asia Institute at the University of Tasmania. “It is normal for these documents to be under the Official Secrets Act for now, as the CEP is an advisory body dealing with the prime minister and with cabinet. But the government must release them, as it is supposedly more transparent than the previous regime.”

Although the specific recommendations are classified, CEP chairman and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin has discussed the key themes into which the council had separated them: governance and institutional reforms; inclusivity; and sustainable economic growth and fiscal reform.

He also touched on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad corruption scandal, saying it was a priority and raising the possibility that more charges would soon be laid. Disgraced former premier Najib Razak has already been charged with abuse of power and alleged money-laundering.

The recommendations also include measures to strengthen the independence of core institutions and enhance their governance framework to end corruption, to address societal imbalance, and to optimise expenditure.

Daim also said the Bumiputera Agenda – the decades-old national effort to give the ethnic Bumiputera majority an economic boost – had been discussed, adding that “we want to get it right this time around”.

However, he emphasised, this agenda was not contradictory to the national agenda of inclusivity and economic wellbeing for all Malaysians.

Concerns such as poverty, inequality, housing affordability, the improvement of child education, and social protection were all raised – issues that prominent economist Prof Rajah Rasiah believes are critical in supporting the transition of Malaysian society to a just and balanced one.

“However, I am not sure if the inclusivity efforts will involve the normative participation of the target groups in policy formulation and implementation until I see it. While the introduction of sustainable development goals by the UN is really important, most initiatives across the world only pursue achievement of indicators with little participative engagement of the masses in collectively shaping their destiny. This is not good,” he said.

Rajah also said the CEP’s focus on sustainable economic growth and fiscal reform was critical, as long as the recommendations provided were sufficiently solid. “Unless something is done we will continue to observe the premature contraction of agriculture and industry.”

The CEP provided a host of suggestions revolving around more effective fiscal policy, strengthening fiscal discipline and accountability, improved debt management, increasing revenue, redesigning tax policy to be more progressive, and optimising expenditure. Rajah believes that these efforts, although relevant and promising, would require the formation of a specialised committee of economists.

“It is important to distinguish foreign debt from public debt, net debt from total debt, debt service, how interest rates affect the different sectors of the economy, how taxes can be used to effectively collect revenue and to improve distribution recognising the fact that there should be a limit to taxation as it raises costs of doing business – competitiveness – and also offers opportunities for abusers: smugglers, shirkers and free riders. Taxation is important to enable the poor and potential innovators to participate productively in society but it has to be implemented effectively to prevent clientelist dissipation of the rents collected.”

However, there are limits to what the CEP can discuss, he believes. Commenting on civil society that Malaysia was still lacking in efforts to reform human rights, Rajah said different committees could address these issues.

Meanwhile, analyst Wong Chin Huat from the Penang Institute think tank raised the issue of the CEP’s future role. Opposition lawmakers have questioned the legality and constitutionality of the advisory panel, and its responsibilities alongside the cabinet.

It has fielded accusations of overstepping its mandate and parties questioning its independence and the separation of powers.

Speculation has been rife over how much power Daim – who served in Mahathir’s administration during his first round as prime minister – had at his disposal.

Annuar Musa, the secretary general of opposition party Umno, has called for the CEP to be dissolved, saying it was “more powerful than the cabinet” given it was empowered to summon ministers to appear before its “elders”.

These include prominent economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram, businessman Robert Kuok, and Zeti Akhtar Aziz, the former governor of Malaysia’s central bank.

“The question is the CEP’s role,” Wong said. “If it’s advisory, and the cabinet makes a final decision on its recommendations, it’s but an extremely influential and well-resourced ‘super think tank’.

“Unelected advisory bodies are normal in democracy. However, if it replaces cabinet to be the actual decision-making body … then it invokes questions of accountability and representation.”

Suaram, a human rights and governance non-governmental organisation, agreed with this take, saying the people had “a right to understand and evaluate” the issues outlined by the CEP.

“Arguing that CEP is unconstitutional or not lawful is purely based on semantics, as there is inherently nothing stopping the government from appointing their officers or advisers,” said programme officer Dobby Chew.

“But if it is to be continued, any extension must be justified and explained by Pakatan Harapan. Especially in light of parliamentary select committees which can be established to hear and engage experts to better understand issues and advise the government.”

Meanwhile, chairperson Daim has assured the public that the CEP members, who were working in a voluntary capacity, have “returned to their normal jobs”.

“Be patient with the government,” he said. “Stay united and let them perform. Let us have unity throughout the country.” - scmp
