- MSO

Misteri pokok petai 'menangis'
akhirnya terjawab.

Najib Razak - Wearing Military Fatigue Uniform
Why Najib Sucked Up To Trump and Sent His Spy Woman Soliciting For CIA Support...

By hook or by crook, Najib Razak had to meet Donald Trump before calling a snap election, which had to happen on or before 24 August, 2018. So, after paying millions of taxpayers’ money to lobbyists, accommodation at Trump International Hotel, flight expenses, food, laundry and whatnot, Najib finally secured an audience with Trump on Sept 12, 2017.

Mr. Najib desperately needed the meeting with the U.S. president for many reasons. First, he needed a photo op with President Trump to convince the gullible and ignorant village folks some 15,328-km back home that he wasn’t a crook. How could the world’s most powerful man shake his hand and smile in front of photographers if indeed he was a thief, Najib would argue.

Second, Najib needed a joint press conference with the POTUS to send a message to not only his opponents – especially Mahathir Mohamad – but also other world leaders of his “legitimacy” as Malaysian prime minister, even after his 1MDB scandal rocked the world. He hoped to use the press conference as a tool to cleanse his corruption and thievery.

Third, he also wanted to publicly invite Trump to Malaysia during the press conference, an invitation that the U.S. narcissist leader could not resist, hence will boost Najib’s image domestically and internationally. It would be the same trick Najib used when Barack Obama agreed to visit the country in 2014, where both leaders subsequently took “selfies” together.

Unfortunately for Mr. Najib, none of his wishlist materialised, despite his pledge at the White House to “Make America Great Again (MAGA)” – to splash US$20 billion purchasing Boeing planes and investing in the U.S. infrastructure redevelopment. Under tremendous pressure, the scheduled photo-op was cancelled, let alone any lunch or state dinner or exchange of diplomatic gift.

It was the first time in history that a leader was given such a humiliating and “deplorable” visit status. Even the customary joint press conference was cancelled during Malaysia then-Prime Minister Najib Razak’s historical visit to the U.S. Of course, the crook almost tears his hair out for being treated like a pariah, more toxic than Angela Merkel whom Trump despised very much.

Hasanah Abdul Hamid – MEIO Spy Director General - Covered Face Being Charged
Hasanah Abdul Hamid – MEIO Spy DG

More importantly, the former premier had wanted Trump administration’s assurance of support in the eventuality of a “hung parliament” in the general election that was about to be called. After the disastrous outcome of his visit to the White House, the desperate Najib instructed his spy woman, Intelligence Chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid, to write to the CIA director, Gina Haspel.

The letter soliciting for U.S. support for Mr. Najib, just 5 days before the 14 general election on May 9, 2019, was a desperate attempt to suck up to the Trump administration. The three-page letter from the intelligence unit under the Prime Minister’s Department, among other things, appealed for U.S. to support Najib administration “even if we win the election by a simple majority or just one seat”.

Although he was confident of winning the election, at least that was what the Special Branch told him, Najib wasn’t sure if he could win big enough to stop Mahathir from pulling a rabbit out of the hat. After all, the 93-year-old man posted letters on Facebook (May 2), calling military generals and police to ensure that their personnel would be able to vote freely without any coercion or restrictions.

In another letter dated Apr 25, 2018 addressed to members of the police and armed forces, the same Mahathir warned there should “not be any threats against the armed forces and police to not vote for the opposition”. It was estimated that there were more than 100,000 members of the armed forces and over 150,000 police officers in the country.

Obviously, Najib was worried about the supposedly “undivided loyalty” of Malaysia’s armed forces to him, not the country and certainly not to a potential Mahathir’s new government. He suspected that as a former prime minister for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, Mr. Mahathir probably still commanded certain loyalty among the soldiers.

Najib’s plan to win the 14th general election included buying over a number of opposition MPs in case his Barisan Nasional won by a razor-thin margin. And Najib didn’t expect his mentor-turned-nemesis Mahathir would surrender without a fight, including the possibility of mobilising armed forces disgusted with his extremely corrupt regime.

Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro

After all, we’re talking about Mahathir, a master strategist who had appointed his brother-in-law as the new Armed Forces Chief as a pre-emptive strike during the 1988 UMNO crisis, where he threatened to use the military to take over the country if anyone dared to remove him as prime minister after UMNO was declared illegal and de-registered by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

Even if Mahathir couldn’t mobilise the military, what will happen if hundreds of thousands took to the street because Najib lost, but play dirty to stay in power by kidnapping or arresting the opposition leaders? What would the U.S. do if Najib wins the election by a simple majority of just one seat, because some opposition MPs suddenly disappeared?

Venezuela’s current turmoil provides some idea what may happen to Najib if he played dirty and used military to stay in power like dictator Maduro. The opposition leader Juan Guaidó has declared himself Venezuela’s interim president after mass protests against Nicolás Maduro. Guaidó’s claim has been recognised by the US, Canada, Brazil, Colombia and others, while the EU has said the voice of the people cannot be ignored.

So, what if the similar scenario happened in Malaysia on May 9 last year? What if opposition leader Mahathir Mohamad declared himself Malaysia’s interim prime minister after mass protests against Najib Razak for massive cheating, where the corrupt Election Commission somehow declared Najib as the winner even if the results say otherwise?

This isn’t some fairy tales because it has been proven that on the night of May 9, the Election Commission had indeed delayed – even suspended – the announcement of the general election winners and the refusal of the signing of the Form 14 documents, presumably to facilitate Najib Razak to have an emergency meeting with his warlords and advisers and to perform his dirty tricks.

Now do you understand why Najib had to meet Trump and sucked up to the U.S. president, failing which he then instructed his spy woman to beg for support from the CIA? Only the U.S. can legitimise the government of Malaysia by a simple congratulation note. Najib needed the US recognition in claiming the government. Unfortunately to Najib, his loss was too spectacular to be salvaged. - FT

A Genocidal State...

1. Malaysia does not recognise Israel; has no diplomatic relation with it, does not allow Malaysians to visit Israel and does not allow Israelis to visit Malaysia.

2. This is the only country in the world that Malaysia treats in this manner. Why?

3. In the first place Israel was created from a slice of Palestinian land, without a referendum or a plebiscite being held. The Palestinians were expelled from Palestine without any compensation for the land and homes seized by the Israelis.

4. Then Israel seized more Palestinian land so that Israel became bigger. The Israelis then built numerous settlements on Palestinian land without the consent of the Palestinian nation. Palestinians are barred from these settlements.

5. When the Palestinians resisted and threw stones at Israeli tanks and armoured cars, the Israeli soldiers fired live bullets at the Palestinian children and arrested many of them. The arrested people were detained for years without trial.

6. The detainees were used to exchange with Israeli soldiers captured by the Palestinians.

7. The Gaza strip is blockaded by Israeli forces. Relief ships carrying food, medicine and building materials were siezed in international waters and forced to go to Israel. In one incident 10 activists were killed. These acts by the Israelis is blatantly against international laws.

8. When the Palestinians fired futile rockets at Israel, the Israelis dropped bombs and fired missiles at Palestinian towns and villages. Schools and hospitals were destroyed, patients and children killed or maimed.

9. The blockade of Gaza is illegal but no country has condemned Israel for breaking international laws and moral codes.

10. Today Israel declares that Jerusalem is its capital. When Palestinian slapped Israelis soldiers, they were shot and killed and many were detained.

11. A high wall has been built to divide Palestinian villages and towns. Palestinians cannot visit relatives without being subjected to humiliating checks at many check-points created by the Israelis. The Palestinians are not allowed to travel on roads built by the Israelis on Palestinian land.

12. Thousands of Palestinian have been killed or wounded through Israeli military actions.

13. The whole world can see the injustice and the oppression of the Palestinian by the Israelis. But Israel is not even criticised by the people who talk so much about freedom from oppression and the rule of law. Israel seems to be privileged.

14. If anyone criticises Israel or the holocaust he is immediately labelled “anti-Semitic”. The implication is that he is inhuman or immoral. But the blatant inhumanity of Israel is not condemned.

15. Malaysia is not anti-Jew or anti-Semitic. The Arabs are also Semitic people. But we reserve the right to condemn inhuman and oppressive behaviour anywhere, by anyone. We have condemned the Myanmar people for their treatment of the Rohingyas. We have criticised many countries and people for inhuman acts.

16. Many people and many countries have condemned us. But we have not been labelled nor have we labelled people who speak as a matter of right in a free world.

17. Malaysia bans two Israeli athletes – the US bans citizens of five Islamic nations and plans to build a wall against South Americans. Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic ban refugees. Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban referred to Syrian refugees as “Muslim invaders.”

18. Israel is a criminal state and deserves to be condemned. We know the strong backing for Israel. We cannot act against Israel beyond refusing to recognise it. We maintain we have a right to bar Israelis from our country. When the world condemns us for this we have a right to say that the world is being hypocritical. Their talk of human rights and the rule of law is so much empty words.

19. I appeal to those who sympathise with the Palestinian cause to voice their condemnation. Terrorism is not the answer. A proper strategy is needed to bring justice to the Palestinians - chedet

14. Tingkah laku mereka tak ubah seperti ' Si Kudong Dapat Cincin ' atau ' Kera Dapat Bunga '.
15. Apabila A Kadir Yassin mencadangkan agar Menteri - Menteri di sekolahkan , mereka melenting ; reaksi mereka itu tak ubah bak kata orang tua ‘Bodoh Sombong Yang Tak Boleh Di Ajar '.

No photo description available.

Hadi kata, kemenangan Bn di Cameron tu tanda Allah beri isyarat agar rakyat tolak PH. Nampak tak lebai dgn mudah guna nama Allah demi kepentingan politik. Masuk bertanding dlm gelanggang takut, tapi berkokok kat luar lebih. Apa kata di Semenyih ni Pas pulak masuk? Kerusi tradisi tu kan? Bn baru menang satu, pas pulak yg lebih2 sampai jual nama Allah. - f/bk

Cameron Highlands’ Defeat - A Wake-Up Call For The Arrogant PH Government...

As expected, the new Pakatan Harapan government fails to snatch the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat from Barisan Nasional. On Saturday (Jan 26), Barisan’s Ramli Mohd Nor became the first indigenous “Orang Asli” to be elected as a Member of Parliament. He won the seat with a 3,238-vote majority in a four-cornered contest against Pakatan candidate M. Manogaran and 2 independent candidates.

Mr. Ramli grabbed 12,038 votes, while Mr. Manogaran took 8,800 votes. In the May 9, 2018 general election, Barisan won the parliamentary seat with a smaller 597-vote majority. Back then, the Barisan candidate secured 10,307 votes, while Manogaran managed 9,710 votes. This means the 3,587 votes, which PAS had won last year, had been “transferred” to Barisan.

After four by-elections last year that failed to provide any promising result, it appears the combo UMNO-PAS had finally gotten the correct recipe. Naturally, the UMNO Malay nationalist party and the PAS Islamist party were extremely happy that they have clinched their first victory. And they deserve to celebrate because unlike the Pakatan government, Barisan pressed all the right buttons.

Some hardcore Pakatan supporters blamed UMNO and PAS for playing racial and religious cards. What do you expect them to do? UMNO is a racist party while PAS is an extremist party. UMNO’s previous job functions were to steal and plunder under the pretext of protecting Malays while “Talibanisation” was what PAS do best, under the pretext of defending Islam.

Pakatan has been shooting itself in the foot from the beginning, and it appeared they enjoyed it very much. Exactly why was DAP candidate Manogaran chosen for the third time when UMNO creatively picked the first indigenous “Orang Asli” to contest, is beyond comprehension. UMNO had the courage to innovate and think out of the box. DAP repeated the same thing again and again.

Manogaran’s comment, that “the Malays don’t even buy kuih from Orang Asli vendors”, was absolutely idiotic. Heck, this guy didn’t even know how to wear the proper attire, resulting in an embarrassing moment where the three times candidate was ordered by the Election Commission to leave a polling station for wearing a shirt with a party logo.

Cameron Highlands By-Election - Manogaran

Adding salt to the injury, PKR Senator Bob Manolan Mohamad was caught threatening Tok Batin (Orang Asli village headmen) – that “Tok Batins” who do not support Pakatan Harapan will not get paid. Suddenly, all the bad behaviours previously demonstrated by Barisan and despised by the ordinary folks have emerged in Pakatan leaders.

But Manogaran and Bob were not the only Pakatan Harapan leaders who seem to be out of touch after the coalition won over the federal government from Barisan Nasional. Even Prime Minister Mahathir was humiliated when he failed to swing the Malay and Orang Asli votes in his campaign for Manogaran. Like a broken record, the 93-year-old premier mocked UMNO as a “broken party”.

The fact that Mahathir was roped in for the Cameron Highlands’ by-election already gave an impression that everything was not well in the land of strawberry and tea plantations. And like Mahathir, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang also whacked the crooked Najib Razak until the kingdom comes. What did Mahathir and Lim expect to achieve by flogging a dead horse?

On one hand, Mahathir condemned UMNO, a party he declares has become a “party penyamun (robbers’ party)”. On the other hand, amusingly, he wants most of the horrible and corrupted UMNO warlords to join his party, PPBM (Bersatu). Whose fault was it that the former PM Najib was given the special privilege of not having to wear orange lock-up suit?

Barisan, now the opposition, won because the “Orang Asli” and ethnic Malay in Cameron were highly motivated to ensure Ramli Mohd Nor wins big. Pakatan, now the ruling federal government, lost because the ethnic Indian and ethnic Chinese in Cameron were demoralised and wouldn’t care whether Manogaran wins or loses.

Why was the Indian community demoralised? Thanks to Mahathir administration, Sri Maha Marianmman Temple riot was allowed to escalate beyond control. Even though the riot was started by a group of Malay gangsters, the government had chosen to play to the tune of racist UMNO and extremist PAS – blaming Minister P. Waytha Moorthy instead of the Malay thugs.

Why was the Chinese community demoralised?  Again, thanks to Mahathir administration, the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) has been put in cold storage. Preferred to be held hostage by UMNO and PAS, the premier reportedly gave a lame excuse – that the UEC recognition must take into account the feelings of the Malays.

Subang Jaya Sri Maha Marianmman Temple Riot - Car Wreckage

Mahathir doesn’t seem to understand, or pretend to be confused, that his party PPBM is no match for UMNO and PAS when comes to racism and extremism. UMNO wannabe PPBM can never become more Malay than the UMNO-Malays and certainly can never become more Islamic than the PAS-Muslims. Both UMNO and PAS are the undisputed champions in their own specialised domains.

Perhaps Mahathir should be reminded that a bird in his hand is worth two in the bush. If he plans to drive his party to be as racist, of not more racist, than UMNO in order to lure the Malay voters, he will surely lose the non-Muslim votes. If he plans to maintain the non-Muslim voters, he cannot dance to the tune of UMNO and PAS. He simply cannot get the best of both worlds.

One of the reasons why the Malays voted for Barisan in Cameron was because they believed the Indians have killed a Malay fireman (Mr. Adib) in the Hindu temple riot. People like Jamal, Papagomo, Azwanddin, Lokman and even Zahid Hamidi or Hadi Awang should be locked up the moment they spewed and incited dangerous racial hatred. Mahathir did nothing to contain the situation.

However, playing the 3R cards (religion, racial and royalty) will not always guarantee Barisan’s victory. At the end of the day, the issue of bread and butter will take precedence over everything. Again, what have Pakatan Harapan delivered to the people in general, let alone the people of Cameron Highlands? Despite the abolishment of GST, the cost of living remains high – and is getting worse.

Mahathir administration must realise that the poverty-stricken “Orang Asli” community still appreciate Najib’s “cash is king” mantra. After 9 months, what were the value propositions on the table that his government has brought to the community? If the more intelligent Malays couldn’t care less about 1MDB scandal, do you think the aboriginal people care whether Najib had stolen or not?

Najib Gives Cash Money To Village Folks

Like it or not, the prime minister was quite arrogant when he argued that the pre-election manifesto is not a bible that has to be followed. As a result, his administration has been accused of dozens of policy U-turns and failure to implement promises in the Pakatan election manifesto. Heck, until today, they couldn’t even agree if the RM81 billion ECRL has been cancelled or otherwise.

Astonishingly, Mahathir’s lieutenant – Vice President of PPBM, Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman – openly demanded for government contracts. Yet, the disgraceful corrupt former Election Commission chairman has yet to be sacked, despite his insistent that he had done no wrong for promoting the practice of favouritism, cronyism, nepotism and corruption.

Making Najib a punching bag won’t work in a Barisan bastion like Cameron Highlands. Malays account for 33.5% of the voters in Cameron Highlands, while the Orang Asli voters account for 22%. Naturally a combination of highly demoralised Chinese (30%) and Indians (15%) were no match for the highly motivated Malays and Orang Asli.

Fortunately to Pakatan Harapan, there are very limited seats where the “fixed deposit” of Orang Asli is the kingmaker. Mahathir should not beat himself up if his regret was not able to swing their votes. After all, even Najib has depended heavily on the community in his own “Pekan” safe seat, the same way Rompin’s Orang Asli calls the shot.

And fortunately to Pakatan Harapan, a closer cooperation between UMNO and PAS will essentially make them more extreme and radicalised. And that would also make the people in Sabah and Sarawak more disgusted about them, forcing the once “fixed deposit” of Barisan to become a great ally of Pakatan – neutralising the threat of losing the government in the next election.

The arrogant Pakatan leaders should start engaging the people more proactive instead of busy hunting for positions and titles and contracts. The rising cost of living has reached a critical level. Instead of mixing sports with politics and banning Israeli athletes from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Mahathir should get his top priority right. - FT

Maka ayoyolah calon PH.

Sebenarnya kemenangan BN bukan kerana perompak kelas cakrawala Najib mendapat sokongan para pengundi CH.

Hati-hati jangan salah perhitungan nanti buruk akibatnya.

Jangan bersilat kata, memutar lidah mendabik diri kononnya PH gagah perkasa kerana para pemimpin PH yg super hebat.

- Mohd Fauzi Mohd Azmi

PAS carries UMNO to victory,even
as PH doubles its orang asli vote...

Barisan Nasional (BN) cannot take full credit for its win in the Cameron Highlands by-election as it would not have happened without PAS’ support.

Political analyst associate professor Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi said PAS voters were the biggest contributors to the increase in BN’s vote majority in Cameron Highlands compared with in the 14th general election last year.

PAS obtained 3,587 votes in GE14, but did not field a candidate this time around.

“In the last general election, the vote was split as the contest involved BN, PAS, Pakatan Harapan (PH), Parti Sosialis Malaysia and Berjasa,” Awang Azman, a senior lecturer at Universiti Malaya, said today.

Today, BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor obtained 12,038 votes, defeating PH’s M.Manogaran (8,800) and independent candidates Sallehudin Ab Talib (314) and Wong Seng Yee (276).

Ramli’s 3,238-vote majority was an increase from the 597 votes BN candidate C. Sivarraajh had obtained previously.

Awang Azman said the results were not surprising, as usually, the incumbent party would be able to defend the seat, especially in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency, traditionally a BN stronghold.

“Similarly, in the four previous by-elections which PH won. PH must work harder in BN strongholds,” he said, referring to the Sg Kandis, Balakong, Seri Setia and Port Dickson by-elections.

Meanwhile, Universiti Utara Malaysia senior lecturer in political and international affairs Md Shukri Shuib said PH must look at the results rationally, and improve.

“The government must improve many things, including Felda. Do not look at them (Felda settlers) as your adversaries,” he said.

Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan had earlier said the win in the by-election was the outcome of the Umno-PAS collaboration.

Mohamad said PAS’ assistance in the by-elections had drawn PAS voters to put their trust in BN.

Mohamad had said BN’s first victory after its defeat in the four previous by-elections would boost the party’s spirits to face the coming Semenyih state by-election.

Camerons outcome a wake-up call,
but ground-shaking it is not...

Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) won handsomely in Cameron Highlands. By any stretch of the imagination, it is not a ground shaking result. Many had predicted it and saw it coming, given the fact that Umno/BN had cleverly chosen a local Orang Asli candidate to assure it of strong support from Orang Asli and Malay voters.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, an ethnic Indian, had an insurmountable task to ride above the politics of race and religion waged by Umno/BN. On top of that, the PAS block votes were also expected to go to Umno/BN. But if we are to compare today’s results with that of the last general election, the outcome was quite predictable.

In that election, the percentage of votes obtained by MIC/BN was 10,307 (40.7%), PAS 3,587 (14.2%) and PH 9,710 (38.3%). The turnout was 25,326 (79%). MIC/BN won by 597 votes. Combined, MIC/BN and PAS got 13,894 (54.9%).

Here, with PAS choosing not to contest, Umno/BN’s share of the votes was 12,038 (56%), an improvement of 1.1% over the votes obtained by MIC/BN and PAS last year. The majority for Umno/BN was 3,238, which more or less reflected the majority it obtained in the last general election plus some 3000 votes contributed by PAS.

PH, on the other hand, secured 8,800 votes (41%), an increase of about 3% from what it obtained in May 2018. It would seem that most of the votes for PSM and Berjasa in GE14 had gone to PH. This time, the turnout was 69%.

Now with such equations and permutations in the results, do you think it carries great ramifications and entails ground-shaking movements in the voting patterns? I do not think so.

Rather it is just a logical sequence and consequence of local politics, as well as voting patterns carried over from GE14. I do not think it would be accurate to think that the results reflect the national mood or sentiments of the people on the ground.

For supporters of PH who are looking at the larger picture, the results could be a blessing in disguise, to serve as a “wake-up” call to PH to reflect on what they have done wrong, and to understand where they failed or disappointed the people. More important is the next general election. PH has time to correct things.

As for the upcoming Semenyih by-election, the combined votes obtained by Umno and PAS in GE14 was thousands short of the votes obtained by PH.

In GE14, PH obtained 23,428 votes (51%), Umno/BN 14,464 (31%) and PAS 6,966 (15%). The PH vote bank was about 2,000 more than the votes of Umno/BN and PAS combined.

If PH were to lose there in the coming by-election, then we can say that the country is going through significant changes in voting trends. - Wan Haron Wan Hassan

N24 Semenyih

Pecahan pengundi mengikut kaum:
Melayu - 67.7%
Cina - 16.7%
India - 1.9%

Sungai Koyan masih belum dapat ditembusi...
Image may contain: 9 people, people smiling, people standing

- f/bk

Apalasamy – DAP's noble
highlands warrior...

In the decades-long struggle of the DAP to establish a foothold in Cameron Highlands, a BN bastion for umpteen years, one figure occupies a special place.

Apalasamy Simmathiri, 67, was the DAP candidate in five general elections since 1990 – thrice for the state seat of Tanah Rata and twice for the parliamentary one of Cameron Highlands.

In all five contests, Apalasamy (above, in red cap) lost in this BN stronghold but managed to save his deposit, a case of being beaten but unbowed.

The defeats were not surprising because of the ruggedness of the vast terrain, the mixed-race composition of the electorate and the enormous advantages incumbency conferred on BN.

These obstacles, once seen as insuperable and now viewed as challenges that can be overcome, have shed a warm afterglow on Apalasamy's efforts at upholding the party's colours in the face of daunting odds.

In the two-week campaign for tomorrow's vote, Apalasamy was a conspicuous if reticent presence at Pakatan Harapan gatherings and ceramah.

Party workers cheer whenever speakers doff their caps to Apalasamy in prefatory remarks as if to acknowledge that the party would not be where it is in Cameron Highlands today had their veteran standard bearer not blazed the once lonely trail.

Apalasamy's pioneering efforts on behalf of DAP would fructify if its candidate to wrest the long-held BN seat, S Manogaran, wins tomorrow.

Forty-one years after setting up the first DAP branch in the district of Kuala Terla, Apalasamy, a vegetable farmer for most of his 67 years, will feel a sense of deep satisfaction that his pioneering efforts have borne fruit.

“When we set up the DAP branch in 1978, Cameron Highlands was part of the Lipis parliamentary constituency and Ghazali Shafie was the member of Parliament,” he recalled.

Invited by Patto

Apalasamy was born in Sungei Siput in 1950 to a leftist father, an estate mandore, who imbued him with sympathy for the poor and a sense of social activism on their behalf.

Good results in the Lower Certificate of Education in 1965 and at Senior Cambridge in 1967 brought him to the notice of then MIC leader and minister VT Sambanthan, the MP for Sungei Siput, who employed him as a peon in his constituency office.

He did not stay long in Sungei Siput. He moved to Cameron Highlands when he was offered a job as an assistant manager of a tea estate there.

Apalasamy came under the influence of the legendary P Patto whom he met in Sungei Siput on one of the DAP stalwart's support-garnering campaign swings in northern Perak. Patto invited him to join the party.

In 1970, Apalasamy left his tea estate job and bought an acre of land on which to plant vegetables in Kampong Terla which was to become a DAP stronghold.

He became a fixture of the DAP in the highlands, leading to serial appearances as a candidate for the state assembly from Tanah Rata and for Parliament from Cameron Highlands which was hived off from the Lipis ward by 1990.

If Manogaran triumphs in Camerons tomorrow, he will have to touch his forelock in gratitude to the man who paved the way for him. - Terence Netto,mk
