Is the noose tightening around Muhyiddin’s neck?....

Rumors are rife in Kuala Lumpur over possible legal action against former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the opposition Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader in the wake of leaks, apparently from someone in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or possibly Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government, of allegedly incriminating information about unexplained funds within his coalition’s bank accounts.

Such an arrest would shake Malaysia’s political structure to its core, making it doubtful it would occur, political analysts say. Although Muhyiddin’s party is widely assumed to have profiteered during the Covid-19 crisis, an arrest prior to looming state elections in June and July would almost certainly backfire on Anwar in a polarized country with a Malay majority suspicious of ethnic minorities, the sources say. The multi-ethnic and moderate Pakatan Harapan coalition government is perceived to be flailing, with Anwar himself seen to be using his position to leverage against Bersatu and PAS with an eye on the upcoming polls. The government, which took power in late November, is perceived as embroiled in accusations of nepotism, witch hunts, and lack of depth in managing the country.

Anwar, at a press conference last month said that portions of RM600 billion (US138.6 billion) that Muhyiddin himself claimed to have been spent on Covid-19 relief programs had been misappropriated. RM90 million was alleged to have been passed onto the Islamic Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) by Bersatu.

In early January, the MACC reportedly arrested a company CEO who was also a Bersatu division chief, alleging the unnamed individual touted government pandemic relief contracts to companies for commissions and demanded a share of profits during the time of the Covid-19 emergency decree in 2020 and 2021. One such contract identified by the MACC was to National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe). It was alleged that RM 4.5 billion ended up in the Perikatan Nasional coalition’s war chest for the November 19 general election.

Under the emergency decree, Muhyiddin as prime minister was given power to act outside the purview of normal government protocols, supposedly without going through the finance ministry and attorney general’s chambers.

Over the past couple of weeks, two Bersatu bank accounts were reported to have been frozen by the MACC over allegations that Bersatu received contributions from 10 contractors who gained various projects. Although the MACC allegedly suspected RM300 million was involved, the balance of Bersatu’s bank accounts was only RM 40 million. The effect of the MACC freezing Bersatu’s bank accounts amplified public perceptions either of Muhyiddin’s wrongdoing or Anwar’s use of the agency to go after his political opponent. This news only became public a day or so before Anwar’s post-cabinet meeting press conference.

Don’t let a corruption scandal go to waste...

Anwar has been accused by some of being on a political vendetta against an allegedly corrupt Muhyiddin, with his Machiavellian side coming out and with an eye on the coming state elections. Some see Anwar taking a ‘golden opportunity’ to destroy the opposition Perikatan Nasional coalition. PN is primarily composed of Bersatu and PAS, which is led by Abdul Hadi Awang, which together won 74 seats in the federal parliament, with PAS being the largest party with 43 seats. The United Malays National Organization was routed from its traditional strongholds in the Malay heartlands by PN. PN even took a number of seats from PKR in semi-urban areas. One casualty was Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah, who lost her seat to PAS in Permatang Puah, held by a member of her family since 1992. Pakatan Harapan won only 84 seats but put together a government with the help of UMNO and the Sarawak-based GPS.

After the general election, Muhyiddin tried to put a government together, having been given the first chance, and looked ready to become prime minister in a coalition with UMNO and GPS from Sarawak. UMNO led by its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pulled out of the PN coalition arrangement at the last minute, leaving Muhyiddin high and dry. UMNO, joining with Pakatan, enabled Anwar to become prime minister.

The state elections are vital...

In a few months Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan, three of them predominantly rural, Malay-dominated states, are due to have state elections. Gains by Perikatan Nasional at the recent federal election, labeled the ‘green wave’ for its Islamic coloration, if repeated would do great damage to the PH-BN coalition. If voting goes the same way during the forthcoming state, Pakatan and BN would only be able to hold Penang and Selangor. UMNO would lose many seats across the states, as would Anwar’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

There is evidence that Anwar’s move has been planned for months. The chief commissioner of the MACC, Azam Baki gave Anwar a number of files just after he became prime minister, according to well-connected sources. If it can be presumed that Covid-19 corruption was the subject of these files, this is a long-planned assault upon Muhyiddin and the opposition PN.

If Anwar could deal a knockout blow, this could potentially bring a new era in Malaysian politics. Casting as much doubt as possible over the integrity of Muhyiddin and PN would destroy the electoral momentum of PN. Insiders say, Pakatan want to rehabilitate UMNO and assist the party to regain its traditional strongholds within the Malay heartlands to displace Bersatu and PAS outside of Kelantan. Success would enable PH-BN to become the ‘natural government’ of Malaysia for years to come.

In Malaysia, nothing can be presumed to be reality until it actually happens. More rumors are circulating that Anwar and Muhyiddin held a secret meeting in Bangkok over the last couple of days to negotiate a truce. MACC investigations are believed to be advanced at this time, with a source saying action may be taken as early as next week.- Murray Hunter, Malaysia-Today.net

Last time Najib also denied profusely his scamming involvement in the 1MDB fiasco. He even swore, and swore and even made few trips to the masjid to swore on the Quran to convince his followers and the rakyats on his innocence. Alas the courts found him guilty and imprison him. And now this Bapak Pengkhianat's turn to face the music. Lets see which masjids will he go to to swear his innocence. - Razak Dali

PAS man,Razman apologises to
PMX,over pro-LGBT claims...

Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria apologised to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Ipoh High Court for claiming during an election campaign last year that Anwar condoned LGBT practices. This was part of a settlement agreement between the two which Anwar’s lawyer SN Nair said his client had consented to as a goodwill gesture and to let the matter rest.

“When a man repents and seeks forgiveness in good faith, it takes a gracious leader to rise to the occasion, accept the apology, and withdraw the suit,” said Nair. He added that the settlement had vindicated Anwar.

The apology was part of a consent judgment to settle Anwar’s defamation suit against Razman (above) over the latter’s claim that Anwar said in a campaign speech he would promote an LGBT agenda, allow same-sex marriage, and support the communist agenda if he became prime minister.

“I would like to refer to my defamatory utterances in one of my speeches during the GE15 campaign which has offended your feelings and is defamatory of you.

“I wish to state that my utterances have impinged directly on your moral turpitude and good reputation and caused you considerable and immeasurable embarrassment, damage, and distress," said Razman in his apology. He also undertook never to repeat such claims in the future.

Letter of demand

Earlier, it was reported that Anwar issued a letter of demand to Razman seeking RM5 million in damages and a public apology over claims of the former having an LGBT agenda and being a DAP puppet.

The Gunong Semanggol assemblyperson allegedly made the claims during a walkabout at the Tebuk Pancur night market in Perak on Nov 6 last year.

The Tambun MP claimed that the allegations were made without the defendant seeking prior confirmation of their truthfulness and validity.

The plaintiff claimed, among others, that the allegation irreparably damaged his reputation and character as well as severely tarnished his social worthiness.

Anwar also alleged that Razman had wilfully ignored his letter of demand. - mk

Apa lagi kita nak panggil kpd pemfitnah spt Razman? Mohon maaf sbb nak elak kena bayar RM5 juta.Bukan ada keinsafan pun. Ini namanya manusia celaka!!! - Mohd Yusof

Do you believe Perak PAS chief would apologise sincerely ? Most probably PAS won't learn and they will repeat their act of slandering and telling lies. - LineGuppy5931

These tok lebais will never learn, what will happen if another lebai repeats and defame the innocent party? Will you forgive and forget? Do not let them get away easy. To utter sorry I will not repeat is simply too easy to forgive and forget, come the next election the whole cycle of such utterances will be repeated. Just watch out. - Checkmate

Penang’s sovereignty:Rayer lodges
police report against Sanusi...

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has lodged a police report against Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today for questioning Penang’s sovereignty. Rayer described Sanusi’s actions to be “very extreme” when the latter disputed the sovereignty of the northern state, which has been established and recognised by the Federal Constitution.

“He is not only questioning the legitimacy of the Federal Constitution but also the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in appointing the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang,” he told reporters outside the Penang North-East district police headquarters after lodging the police report.

“As a menteri besar, he should be responsible and seek views and advice from legal experts. “Sanusi should not criticise and give speeches (like this) at his whims as he could cause unrest among Penangites.” Rayer then urged Sanusi to retract his statement and apologise for his mistake. The DAP politician also urged the police to take action against the PAS leader following the report.

Rayer was referring to a TikTok video, where Sanusi had questioned the sovereignty of Penang by saying that the “state is leased from Kedah”.

In the short clip, Sanusi claimed that Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy had allegedly said that state governments do not have sovereignty. Instead, sovereignty belongs to the federal government.

“Each state that joined the Federation of Malaysia has its own sovereignty. “Kedah has sovereignty, we have our sultan. We have a government, laws and geographical borders.

“This is the entity that forms the sovereignty of the state of Kedah. “The only thing I doubt about sovereignty is Penang, because the state is leased from Kedah,” he claimed in the video.

In 2021, the PAS politician made similar allegations in the Kedah state assembly. Back then, The Vibes reported Sanusi telling the Kedah state assembly that he understood Penang’s concerns over several major projects announced by Kedah - which are thought to give Penang competition.

However, he said it should be remembered that “Penang was leased, and it should not interfere or criticise Kedah’s administrative matters.” - mk

MACC probing possible abuse of power
in contract for ex-PM’s son-in-law...

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the award of a lucrative contract to the son-in-law of a former prime minister, a source has confirmed. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the anti-graft agency’s probe centred around possible abuse of power in connection with the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe).

“MACC is looking at how the contract was given and the company’s links to those who were in power at the time,” the source said. New evidence related to the case has surfaced, including that the project was now classified as a “sick project” as very little progress has been made, the source added. “MACC may call in senior members of a previous administration as part of its probe.”

Muhyiddin’s son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, was named in media reports in 2020 as being linked and possibly a key player in the contract for the NIISe. Adlan was alleged to have links to one of the project’s frontrunners, security solutions provider S5 Holdings Inc, according to a report in The Vibes.

However, S5 group managing director Syed Mohammad Hafiz Jamalullail was reported by The Edge as saying in 2021 that none of his political connections, including Adlan, was involved in S5.

The system was reportedly mooted by Muhyiddin when he was the home minister in the 2018-2020 Pakatan Harapan government, after the Sistem Kawalan Imigresen Nasional was cancelled by him because of high costs. Estimates put NIISe’s cost at about RM1.2 billion, about 66% less than the RM3.5 billion cost of the former project. - fmt

Muhyiddin’s new plan to seize power....
Brings back “Cow-Condo Scandal”
protégé Shahrizat as UMNO women chief...

After failing to form a government, as well as several half-baked political coups similar to 2020’s “Sheraton Move” that had gone awry, opposition Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s attention now shifts to the upcoming UMNO party election. By hook or by crook, he has to control two-thirds of the rival UMNO supreme council in order to escape any charges of money laundering.

Former PM Muhyiddin could join Najib Razak in prison if he fails to topple 10th Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Former PM Najib is currently serving 12-year jail sentence in Kajang Prison for stealing RM42 million of SRC International money. Muhyiddin is rushing against time as he could be charged soon in the RM92.5 billion corruption scandal involving Covid-19 stimulus programme.

Only by controlling the United Malays National Organization’s (UMNO) Supreme Council can power-hungry Mahiaddin (Muhyiddin) topple UMNO president Zahid Hamidi and his deputy “Tok Mat” Mohamad Hasan. Zahid was the biggest stumbling block in Perikatan Nasional forming a new government after the Nov 2022 General Election that produced a hung parliament.

Under Zahid leadership, the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional’s 30 MPs, without which neither Anwar-led Pakatan Harapan (82 MPs) nor Muhyiddin-led Perikatan Nasional (74 MPs) could form any government, has chosen to partner with Pakatan coalition to form the current unity government in the 222-seat Parliament. Hence, a leadership change in UMNO is the secret recipe to seize power.

In order to sack Zahid (or Tok Mat), along with members of pro-Zahid Supreme Council, Article 9.12 of the UMNO Constitution says it requires the support of two-thirds of delegates at an EGM (extraordinary general meeting) of the Malay nationalist party. However, it’s impossible that Zahid, who has just been appointed Deputy Prime Minister, will call for an EGM to sack himself.

The second method to trigger an UMNO EGM is through a request by at least half of UMNO’s 191 divisions. This will not work too because a total of 140 division chiefs has expressed solidarity for the president post not to be contested in the UMNO elections, which began in stages on Feb 1 and will end on March 18. The third option – a written request from two-thirds of the UMNO supreme council.

Mohamad Hasan and  Zahid Hamidi

If the UMNO presidency falls vacant, the deputy president will take over until the next party elections. If the acting president steps down, then the supreme council must appoint one of the three vice-presidents to hold the post. This is why UMNO deputy Mohamad Hasan was rewarded with Defence Minister as an insurance in case Zahid is convicted of his ongoing 47 corruption charges.

This is also why there are rumours that former PM Ismail Sabri, who is one of three vice-presidents, could be suspended for betraying the party by supporting enemy Bersatu president Muhyiddin as the prime minister post-15th General Election. Already, Khairy Jamaluddin is sacked from UMNO while Hishammuddin Hussein has been suspended for 6 years.

Khairy and Hishammuddin were two greatest threats to Zahid’s grip on power. With both eliminated from challenging Zahid for the presidency or the three vice-presidents posts, it also means PM Anwar could govern uninterrupted. And it’s the same reason why Muhyiddin’s plan includes the sacking of the UMNO deputy president upon controlling the party’s supreme council.

While Zahid is preparing his loyalists to win all the three vice-president posts, there are still some risks. Powerful warlord like Johari Abdul Ghani, who controls the news media through Media Prima – which owns TV stations like TV3 and newspapers like New Straits Times, Berita Harian, Harian Metro, Sin Chew Daily and Guang Ming Daily, as well as portal “Free Malaysia Today” – could emerge as one of UMNO vice-presidents.

Underdog like Johari could become UMNO president if he agrees to switch sides and withdraws UMNO’s support for Pakatan Harapan in the event Muhyiddin succeeded in controlling the party’s supreme council. This explains why the opposition panicked after Muhyiddin’s party – Bersatu – saw its accounts frozen for money laundering activities linked to the Covid-19 stimulus programme.

It’s not a walk in the park to control the supreme council. As Zahid has boldly and decisively executed the exercise to clean up the party of traitors, saboteurs and provocateurs, ex-PM Muhyiddin makes his move by testing the water by bringing back loyalists like former Wanita UMNO (Women Chief) leader Shahrizat Jalil, his former protégé involved in the infamous Cow-Condo scandal.

NFCorp Cowgate Scandal - Shahrizat Jalil & husband

UMNO Kota Melaka chief Haryaty Hamdza raised eyebrows with dubious claims that as many as 147 Wanita UMNO division chiefs nationwide are calling for Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to return to politics and lead the party’s women’s wing again. The hilarious story was that the corrupt Shahrizat had left behind a legacy and reputation that are still admired even after she retired from politics.

Current UMNO Women Chief, Noraini Ahmad, a pro-Zahid party leader who is also the former higher education minister, has been accused as a weak leader and does not inspire confidence. Shahrizat, who led the women’s wing from 2008 to 2018, is being promoted as part of the propaganda as a fighter who is so impressive that UMNO grassroots could not live without her.

The Wanita UMNO Chief is one of the party supreme council members. More importantly, she could influence the entire women’s wing to revolt against party president Zahid Hamidi. However, there’s one huge problem with Shahrizat – the people still remember vividly her Cowgate scandal, where she and her family members siphoned RM250 million of taxpayers’ money meant for National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

The NFC or NFCorp began in 2006 when AISB (Agro-based Industry contracted Agroscience Industries Sdn Bhd) was contracted by the Ministry of Agriculture to develop an integrated livestock farming and beef production facility. The objective was to boost and achieve nation’s beef self-sufficiency. AISB then sets up NFC, which was awarded the project on 27 October 2006.

On 6 December 2007, NFCorp was given a RM250 million, 2%-interest, soft loan to start the noble project. By February 2008, NFCorp imported 904 cattle for the project. But on top of the RM250 million easy loans, the government had spent RM48.71 million to develop the project between 2007 and 2010. In addition, the government had also given a RM13 million launching grant to NFCorp.

So, the project had actually taken up RM311.71 million of taxpayer’s money before even a single cow could be produced. But that was just the beginning of the “Cowgate” scandal after the project was awarded to the family of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in 2006, who was then the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, as well as the UMNO Women Chief.

As NFCorp Chairman, Mohammad Salleh Ismail,Shahrizat’s husband paid himself RM100,000 monthly salary. His 31-year-old son Izmir Salleh was paid RM45,000 monthly as executive director. Another son Izran Salleh, 27, commanded RM35,000 a month as CEO while 25-year-old daughter Izzanah Salleh was paid RM35,000 as a director. The family was paid a total sum of RM215,000 every month.

In 2011, the NFCorp exploded into a full-blown scandal after the Auditor-General’s Report’s highlighted that the RM74 million centre in Gemas, Negri Sembilan only achieved 3,289 heads of cattle, when there should be 8,000 cows – suggesting that close to “60% of cows were missing”. Shahrizat’s husband denied that the project was in a mess, insisting his family was on track to produce 60,000 cows by 2015.

Even Shahrizat’s son admitted in Nov 2011 that the family had used nearly RM600,000 of the NFCorp funds to pay for credit card expenses, but argued that they were used for “business development purposes”. Later, it was exposed that at least RM62 million was spent by the despicable family members on, among other things, several up-scale apartments in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

NFCorp fund was diverted to purchase two plots of lands (RM3.3 million), a RM534,622 Mercedes Benz CLS 350 CGI, three fine-dining restaurants (Meatworks, Senor Santos and Brawns Steakhouse), 2 units of “One Menerung” luxury condominium at Bangsar (RM6.9 million each), a RM9.9 million luxury condo at Orchard Scotts and two condos at Marina Bay Financial Center suites costing RM34.6 million.

In fact, Shahrizat herself admitted that NFCorp transferred over RM500,000 to Meatworks (Singapore) Private Limited, which was owned by her family, to buy a condominium in Singapore. The Marina Bay luxury suites were bought under the names of NFCorp Chairman Mohamed Salleh Ismail and his son, Wan Shahinur Izran Salleh.

However, despite overwhelming evidence of criminal breach of trust (CBT), money laundering and abuse of power, although amusingly, Shahrizat claimed she had nothing to do with how the NFC got the RM250 million soft loan while she was a member of the Cabinet. Heck, she even claimed that she and her husband had never talked about NFCorp, although they slept together.

Eventually, Mohamad Salleh was charged in March 2012 with two counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM49.7 million of the company’s funds. However, as expected, he was acquitted in November 2015 of the charges. Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Norsharidah Awang granted Salleh the acquittal after lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah “met in her chambers”.

Surprisingly, the judge did not give any reason for her decision. Shafee Abdullah was the same so-called hotshot lawyer who represented Najib Razak – and failed – to defend the former premier, leading to the crook being jailed for 12 years. Shafee is now spinning and twisting facts in his attempts to free his client with laughable claims that Najib did not get a fair trial in his appeal in the Federal Court.

Coincidentally, it was former Attorney General Mohamed Apandi Ali, who had consented to grant the husband of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil a discharge not amounting to an acquittal. Mr. Apandi was the same disgraced A.G. who was appointed by Najib to clear him of any wrongdoing with regard to RM2.6 billion (US$681 million) of money stolen from 1MDB fund.

Very few knew that Muhyiddin was the Agriculture Minister who approved the dubious RM250 million loans to Minister Shahrizat Jalil on Oct 27, 2006 for the National Feedlot Corporation that eventually exploded as one of Malaysia’s most scandalous projects. In Nov 2022, days before the national election, there were reports that a negotiation for an out-of-court settlement was hatched.

If opposition Perikatan Nasional seizes power once again, the settlement between the government and NFC could see little chance that the people could recover much of the RM250 million plundered by the crooks, let alone chance to jail any family members of Shahrizat. Worse, she could – with Muhyiddin’s blessing – start yet another mega project. - FT

Nothing wrong in doing
pro bono work for govt...

“If they know a new government is being formed, with Umno in, ‘Why don’t you (Umno MPs) join in now, why don’t you join us now, rather than you join later?’ I think if we did that, a majority will leave Umno (with just) 10-20 (MPs), with just Najib (Abdul Razak) and his people (left behind). Especially if there are positions. If not a minister, then chairperson of a GLC.”

These infamous words were the transcript of an audio recording that surfaced after the backdoor government was formed in 2020.The voice of the man uttering these words resembled that of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin who led MPs in ousting the Pakatan Harapan government.

Although the recording made its rounds at that time, he has not denied making the statement. But all MPs joined in supporting him, and his government found themselves in various positions ensuring additional income in addition to parliamentary allowances.

While the debate rages on the appointment of current prime minister Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter Nurul Izzah as a special adviser, it is noteworthy to go back to the past. Having taken the stand that there would be no longer political appointees to government agencies, Anwar is now getting flak with charges of nepotism, but his daughter’s services come gratis - free of charge.

Many have asked how she was chosen especially since she has neither the qualifications nor the experience in finance. Among them are former ministers and political leaders who were previously instrumental in enriching their colleagues in the party.

Did anyone raise an eyebrow when former ministers (including the wife of a minister) were appointed as ambassadors many years ago? While there are so many career diplomats, what special qualifications did they have to merit their appointments?

After the 14th general election, the “council of elders” selected heads of government agencies based on merit and experience. But in 2000, they were unceremoniously removed by the backdoor government to make way for cronies.

If one reads the annual reports of GLCs and government agencies, one would not have missed noticing the number of “not so qualified” people on boards of some of these companies and agencies.

People who are appointed to agencies must have some knowledge of their operations. For example, people who do not know which is the port side or the starboard of a ship should have no business serving in agencies supervising port operations.

Past experience

Before I proceed, let me declare that I, too, had offered to do pro bono work for the government.

In 2008, the Tourism Ministry commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to prepare a special report on one of its companies - Pempena Sdn Bhd. It was a catalogue of shame because many of its subsidiaries were bleeding.

In 2011, I was posted as The Sun's correspondent in London. I wrote to Pempena, requesting to be appointed as a director of the Awana Chelsea Restaurant (which it owned) after having done research into why it had incurred losses running into millions of ringgit.

The restaurant was then managed by a Malaysian-born and the company secretary was his Singapore-born wife. I conducted searches at the Companies House – the equivalent of the Companies Commission of Malaysia and discovered that two Malaysians were on the board – a Malaysian lawyer and his brother-in-law - appointed by the minister.

There were no records of meetings or approvals. Like Nurul Izzah, I too did not have qualifications or experience, but I have a law degree and I know how to read accounts, identify problematic areas and offer solutions. At that time, I had 40 years of experience in journalism and spent a good part of my career doing investigative journalism.

Hence, I wrote to Pempena: “I am willing to once again, in the interest of the country, offer my services, not to manage the restaurant, but to safeguard the government’s investments and see how the bleeding of the restaurant can be stopped.

“Let me assure you that I don’t want a sen or penny, and not even a free meal at the restaurant. I will be the majority shareholders’ eyes and ears. That’s all.” My offer was spurned by the board and that of Tourism Malaysia for reasons better known to them. The restaurant was subsequently sold with another RM15 million down the drain.

If people volunteer their services and ask for nothing in return, what’s the beef of the critics of Nurul Izzah’s appointment? Unlike the Muhyiddin appointees who were highly paid (some up to RM30,000 a month), Nurul Izzah costs nothing to the government.

Anwar would not have appointed her if she did not have the capability of handling the responsibilities in that role. Like Nurul Izzah and I, there are hundreds of Malaysians who have knowledge and experience in their respective areas.

Anwar and the government must tap their resources in enhancing the government machinery and its workings. But do choose them on merit – not because they or members of their family have done favours or made donations to the party. - R.Nadeswaran,mk

Now we know why Muhyiddin hid in London....
Bersatu could be deregistered after
RM300 million account frozen...

Bersatu has pre-emptively published its account statement after rumours spread that the political party’s account has been frozen. When the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) finally confirmed that Bersatu’s (PPBM) accounts were indeed frozen over money-laundering investigation on Feb 1, 2023 – one day after its account statement – the party thought it could claim innocence.

The damage control by the Malaysian United Indigenous Party was to create a narrative that if it could reveal its assets and cash to the public “before” the MACC officially announced the freezing of its accounts, it might look less guilty. And if it could show that its accounts did not have RM4.5 billion, it could hoodwink its gullible supporters into believing it did not steal any money.

After publishing the party’s account statement, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s former principal private secretary, Marzuki Mohamad, immediately gloats – “For those who accused Bersatu of receiving RM4 billion from the RM92.5 billion Economic Stimulus Package fund, you can see the audited party account statements for 2020 and 2021.”

The party’s account shows a balance RM28.4 million in 2020 and RM64.6 million in 2021. Interestingly, in 2020, Bersatu received RM109 million in so-called donations. The next year, it received RM148 million in yet another round of dubious donations. In total, it had received RM257 million in donations in just two years. Exactly who would be so generous to donate so much money to Bersatu?

Former backdoor Prime Minister Muhyiddin should just keep his mouth shut, instead of instructing his minion to reveal the accounts. Marzuki, clearly not so bright, appears to be clueless that it was a red herring for the party to prove that it did not receive RM4.5 billion kickbacks from the RM92.5 billion Covid-19 stimulus program, which Muhyiddin had earlier bragged to be RM600 billion.

Yes, it was Muhyiddin himself who sang like a canary in April 2021 that the Perikatan Nasional backdoor government under his leadership has splashed more than RM600 billion to boost the economy and rescue the people. The power-hungry man was particularly proud with his brilliance when he declared a State of Emergency to rule with absolute power – freely plundering public funds.

RM92.5 billion covid-19 stimulus package scandal
Muhyiddin & Adam Radlan

All hell broke loose after Muhyiddin failed to form a government post-15th General Election. Newly crowned PM Anwar Ibrahim told a media conference on Dec 5, 2022 that the Finance Ministry had been informed of several breaches involving the Covid-19 funds. Muhyiddin screamed that he did not steal any money after Anwar said there were some dubious expenditures involving the RM600 billion.

Panicked, Muhyiddin admits there was no such thing as RM600 billion, contradicting his previous claims. He said it was only RM530 billion. Even then, he played down the numbers. Spilling the beans, he said his administration had only spent RM83 billion in fiscal injections. This means Muhyiddin’s government did not actually help the people to the tune of RM530 billion as shamelessly trumpeted.

However, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it will focus on its investigation on the RM92.5 billion “directly funded” by the Muhyiddin regime after it was established that RM437.5 billion was not from the government. On the night of January 5, the MACC arrested 42-year-old Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, who turns out to be Muhyiddin’s right-hand man.

Apparently, Mr Adam was arrested over his role as “middleman” in brokering government projects related to Covid-19 stimulus packages worth RM92.5 billion (US$21 billion) in exchange for bribes. A former chief executive of Maju Assets Sdn Bhd, he is also Segambut divisional leader of Muhyiddin’s political party – Bersatu (Malaysian United Indigenous Party).

The best part is Adam is the cousin of Muhyiddin’s son-in-law, Muhamad Adlan Berhan, who in turn was involved in several scandals. Mr Adlan married to Muhyiddin’s daughter, Nabilah, who is a shareholder of Agathistwo Jia Sdn Bhd, a company involved in the scandalous RM1.2 billion NIIS (National Integrated Immigration System) concession.

After the MACC raided 8 government agencies and 9 companies in December 2022 as part of its investigation into the suspected misappropriation of RM92.5 billion by the Perikatan Nasional government, it was found that at least 5 middlemen of several companies were involved in obtaining projects worth between RM50 million and RM500 million through direct negotiations.

Adam Radlan – Arrested By MACC

Contractors who have been grilled by the anti-graft agency admitted that they agreed to pay a commission of 3% to 5% to secure projects from those middlemen. This means up to RM4.5 billion could have been paid to Adam and his gang of middlemen on behalf of Muhyiddin. Of course, the ex-PM was not dumb enough to deposit all the dirty money into his private bank accounts, not after 1MDB scandal.

Unlike former PM Najib Razak, whose stealing saw more than US$700 million (hence the infamous RM2.6 billion) from the 1MDB sovereign fund landed in his personal bank accounts, Muhyiddin knew how to divert “his share” to offshore accounts, leaving the necessary kickbacks to fund the 15th General Election campaign, including up to RM350 for each Malay vote bought.

Now we know why Muhyiddin had gone hiding on a long holiday in London recently, while another former premier, Ismail Sabri, was also holidaying nearby in Dubai, along with other crooks. Real estate in the United Kingdom is highly favoured among not only Malaysian property investors, but also corrupt politicians and family members, including Najib’s stepson Riza Aziz.

Crucially, London is a well-known hub for money laundering, where the drug lords, corrupt politicians, Russian oligarchs and other economic offenders have kept their dirty money parked in the country in the form of property and other assets. A report by The Economist said that the money-laundering problem in the “Laundromat London” involves at least US$125 billion per year.

A tax haven, Dubai too is a top destination for illicit cash, and a preferred hub for money laundering. In fact, last year (2022), Paris-based Financial Action Task Force puts the UAE (United Arab Emirates), home to Dubai and oil-rich Abu Dhabi, on a “gray list” of 23 countries that isn’t doing enough to stop criminals and militants from hiding wealth there.

Marzuki’s premature gloating could come back to haunt Bersatu. Investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, the frozen of the party’s account was triggered after MACC found sufficient evidence from 10 contractors who had paid more than RM300 million in so-called donations into Bersatu’s accounts.

Based on 5% commission, it means dubious projects involving more than RM6 billion had been given for the purpose of soliciting RM300 million in donations during PM Muhyiddin Yassin’s 17-month regime (March 2020 – August 2021) and PM Ismail Sabri’s 14-month administration (Aug 2021 – Oct 2022). But Bersatu’s account statements only showed RM257 million in donations in 2020 and 2021.

The discrepancies and inconsistencies mean Bersatu had continued receiving kickbacks in 2022 – with or without assistance from Sabri. It could also mean PAS Islamist party might have become Bersatu’s partner-in-crime, receiving the remaining bribes disguised as donations. Having less than RM4 billion in the party’s account does not mean Bersatu is any less guilty, let alone clear from corruption.

Muhyiddin’s errand boy Marzuki thought they could hide behind audited reports. But hadn’t Najib and his minion Arul Kanda pulled a similar trick, only for the world to see how the 1MDB audit report was tampered? An account statement is not foolproof, therefore it isn’t the final piece of evidence that Muhyiddin and his band of crooks had only received RM257 million.

In another pre-emptive move, Bersatu’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has accused the unity government of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional of using the MACC to “kill” Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional’s credibility. That’s laughable because both MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki and Attorney General Idrus Harun were political appointees of Muhyiddin to begin with.

Desperate for cash to buy votes in the coming six state elections, obviously the party is playing psychology game with hilarious accusations that the unity government was trying to cripple Bersatu. The freezing of Bersatu accounts is quite different from that of UMNO’s, whose bank accounts were similarly frozen in 2018 involving over RM194 million linked to 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd).

First of all, UMNO was then part of Perikatan Nasional government. Hence, there was no incentive for Muhyiddin to kill UMNO by forfeiting the frozen money. In addition, the prosecutors – either deliberately or ignorantly – had failed to convince the court that the RM194 million came from Najib. More importantly, there was no evidence to prove that the monies came from unlawful activities.

In the case of Bersatu, however, the ill-gotten money came directly from 5% commission masked as donations. The MACC has 10 suspects and more than RM300 million money trails as evidence. At best, the party could see its money forfeited. At worst, Muhyiddin and other crooks could be arrested and charged for money laundering, and the party declared illegal and de-registered by the RoS (Registrar of Society).

No matter how Bersatu leaders like to twist and spin, they have to explain how the party, founded in 2016 and was only in power for 17 months (less than 2 years) under Muhyiddin, could accumulate a jaw-dropping RM257 million in cash. The United Malays National Organization (UMNO) only had RM194 million despite being in power for 61 years (or 76 years since its inception in 1946). - FT

If Bersatu is clean,then explain
RM300 million in accounts...

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim insists that his unity government had nothing to do with the probe against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. After chairing the Cabinet meeting yesterday, the prime minister reiterated that law enforcement agencies and the judiciary in Malaysia were independent.

It is unfair for leaders of political parties who are being investigated to make accusations that there is interference by the unity government,” Anwar told members of the press yesterday afternoon. “This is not oppression, or political persecution, as in the past. We are not using these enforcement agencies (to our own end).”

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) launched a probe into Bersatu, freezing the opposition party’s bank accounts. This comes ahead of several state elections that are expected to be held in the coming months. It had been widely alleged that Bersatu had received contributions of over RM300 million from contractors who were awarded projects during the party’s brief run in Putrajaya.

Several Bersatu leaders had lambasted the anti-graft body’s move. Bersatu president and former prime minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said that his party would write to the MACC to unfreeze its accounts.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, singled out the two things that had transpired with regard to the episode.“There’s a report lodged with the police and MACC regarding Bersatu’s funds. Also, at the Finance Ministry, I saw expensive projects that had been approved without going through the tender process.

“In the Jana Wibawa programme, carried out during the Movement Control Order, we found that the cost was very high,” said Anwar, referring to the programme that was created to empower Bumiputera contractors.

“What MACC did was not based on my views or findings. They did a detailed investigation that revealed Bersatu had over RM300 million in their accounts.

“If the (Bersatu) leaders are indeed clean, they should explain how, at such short notice, they got so much money, from where, and who gave it to them.” He added that any party, including those within the government, was subjected to investigations. - newswav

KJ’s sacking & H2O’s suspension are long overdue...

KJ’s sacking & H2O’s suspension are long overdue....

Zahid Hamidi would have become a great surgeon had he not joined politics. With great precision, the president of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO)  boldly and decisively removed two biggest cancer cells from the party – Khairy Jamaluddin and Hishammuddin Hussein. The decision on Friday (Jan 27) effectively eliminates all Zahid’s opponents in the party.

While the Malaysia’s oldest political party has sacked Khairy and supreme council member Noh Omar, former defence minister Hishammuddin was suspended for a whopping 6 years. In total, almost 50 UMNO leaders were either fired or suspended. Of course, they have tried to put up a brave face, saying “this is not the end, but merely a beginning” and all sorts of self-comforting quotes.

Khairy announced he is “unbowed, unbent, unbroken”. Yet, in a series of Instagram stories on Saturday (Jan 28), he whined and bitched how he was unilaterally and unfairly sacked. He complained that despite his loyalty to the party for 23 years, he had not been given a show cause letter, let alone disciplinary hearing. Hilariously, before his sacking, he bragged that he was ready to face any disciplinary action – including being sacked.

Hishammuddin too was stunned over his suspension. In a TikTok video posted at about 8pm Saturday (Jan 28) night, he claimed he would not be broken, along with a quote – “What has happened will not break my spirit to continue my struggle for my religion, race and country”. Equally hilarious, he too had challenged Zahid to sack him a couple of weeks ago – if the UMNO president dares.

Now that both UMNO warlords have been punished, they started to pretend how innocent they are and how they had been victimised by their party president. In truth, Khairy and Hishammuddin deserved to be sacked after what they had done to the party. The only reason Hishammuddin and his gang were suspended instead of axed is because they are Members of Parliament.

It’s not a coincidence that all those who were expelled like Khairy and Noh do not contribute any parliamentary seat to UMNO. Noh Omar, a well-known gangster, thinking Zahid could not do any worse, stood up during the supreme council meeting and challenged the party president to sack him instead of suspended for 6 years. Zahid gladly complied – “If that’s what you want, you got it”.

Noh Omar - Confused, Clueless and Incompetent

Not even former lame duck Prime Minister Ismail Sabri, one of three UMNO vice-presidents, could pressure Zahid against punishing Khairy and Hishammuddin. The punishments might not have followed the necessary process, but Zahid’s action was not illegal. Some five supreme council members disagreed with the disciplinary decision, but Zahid had already decided.

Mr Noh probably had forgotten that his boss was a bigger gangster when he tried to play reverse psychology by saying he would rather be sacked and suspended. Mr Khairy, an Oxford graduate, probably thought he was too intelligent for his boss to sack him. Mr Hishammuddin most likely believed he was too powerful and influential to be punished.

However, they have all miscalculated and misread Mr Zahid. The UMNO president is not a master strategist like former PM Mahathir Mohamad. He is not a snake oil salesman like Najib Razak, the crooked ex-PM currently serving 12 years in prison for looting the state investment fund 1MDB. And he is certainly not a politician with patience equals to God’s like Anwar Ibrahim.

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is just the “Big Boss” of “Tiga Line Gangster”. So, like Al Capone, he will do what a gangster boss would normally do when faced with rebels, snitchers and betrayers within the organization. Either he exterminates those disloyal to him, or get killed eventually. He does not want to waste time looking over his shoulders for backstabbers and betrayers.

And this is where Zahid is different from Anwar, who had stubbornly and stupidly chosen to keep and trust his deputy Azmin Ali – despite numerous warnings of treachery and betrayal. When then-former PKR president Azmin finally switched sides in Feb 2020, leading to the collapse of Pakatan Harapan government, Anwar cried a river. Zahid has no plan to repeat Anwar’s mistake.

Speculations that action would be taken against UMNO traitors, saboteurs and provocateurs had already begun after the 15th General Election in November 2022. Behind Zahid’s back, traitor Hishammuddin quietly instigated 10 UMNO-led Barisan Nasional MPs to support rival Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin as 10th Prime Minister after the election that produced a hung Parliament.

Hugging - Muhyiddin and Hishammuddin

Yes, back in Nov 21, Hishammuddin said he was willing to be removed by the party, rather than cooperate with Pakatan Harapan in forming a new government. Having signed statutory declaration (SD) to support Muhyiddin, he was leading 10 MPs ready to cross over to the enemy’s camp, only to retract the SDs after Zahid warned they could lose their parliamentary seats in violation of anti-hopping law.

The same anti-hopping law which saw Hishammuddin chicken out some three months ago is the same reason Zahid could not sack him on Friday. If he is sacked, he could keep his seat and happily join opposition Perikatan Nasional. On the other hand, he will lose the seat if he quits UMNO over his 6-year suspension. To keep the seat within UMNO, Zahid cleverly suspends Hishammuddin.

Now, the cousin of Najib is trapped for the next 6 years. He could neither challenge Zahid nor leave the party. There’s no guarantee Hishammuddin could retain his Sembrong seat if a by-election is called if he quits UMNO. The fact that he won in the recent election suggests that it was a stronghold of UMNO. Therefore, UMNO supporters would not accept a traitor if he jumps ship to Muhyiddin’s party.

But Hishammuddin’s treachery and betrayal started as early as after the May 2018 General Election. After Barisan Nasional lost power for the first time in 61 years since independence, he cowardly ran away, refusing to even defend his precious UMNO vice-president post. Worse, he began sucking up to PM Mahathir Mohamad, who successfully led Pakatan Harapan to the historic victory.

Having deserted UMNO when the party was at its lowest point, Hishammuddin only came back after it returned to power as one of governing partners in the loosely glued Perikatan Nasional backdoor government in March 2020 – comprising UMNO, Muhyiddin-led Bersatu and extremist PAS Islamist party. He again tried to leave UMNO after the party performed terribly in the Nov 2022 national election.

KJ - Pharmaniaga Sinovac Vaccine Rebottling and Repackaging

When UMNO lost power in 2018, traitor Hishammuddin instigated dozens of UMNO MPs to switch sides to Mahathir in an attempt to weaken his own party. When UMNO lost more seats in 2022, the same traitor instigated 10 Barisan Nasional MPs to switch sides to Muhyiddin in an attempt to destroy his own party. Exactly why should Zahid keep a Trojan horse like Hishammuddin?

Clearly, Hishammuddin isn’t as loyal to UMNO as he tries to hoodwink the UMNO-Malays. In fact, he is worse than his cousin Najib. At least, Najib did not badmouth his own party’s president, let alone plotting with the enemies who wanted to destroy and swallow UMNO, before taking over its assets, grassroots and machinery. Hishammuddin’s loyalty is with Muhyiddin and Bersatu, not UMNO anymore.

Like the ambitious Hishammuddin, Khairy too wanted to become the youngest prime minister. He openly declared during 2022 General Election campaign that he is ready to lead the country and become prime minister. It was merely a gimmick to win Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, which he did not succeed. He was deliberately given the tough seat to end his political career.

Accusing UMNO of having gone astray under Zahid leadership, Mr Khairy was admitting that the party has become rotten and corrupted. He tried to paint himself as a reformist, copying a page from Anwar Ibrahim’s “Reformasi” playbook. He must have thought voters were too stupid to remember how he kept quiet as his former boss – Najib Razak – helped himself to billions of dollars in the infamous 1MDB scandal.

He also assumed the people were too gullible to realize how he, as Minister of Health, had given instruction to free Najib by relocating the crook to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital on Sept 17, 2022, allowing the prisoner to stay in VVIP ward – till the plan was exposed by an anonymous. Khairy claimed Najib needed physiotherapy, but Najib only suffered high blood pressure, which has nothing to do with physiotherapy.

Crucially, it was under Khairy’s leadership that Pharmaniaga, despite its lack of expertise, was allowed to rebottle and repackage Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine at a time when people were dying so that some cronies could profit from it. It’s absolutely funny that Khairy wanted to clean up UMNO only after he was out of favour and no longer a government minister.

Hishammuddin Hussein - Holding Keris Dagger

And you don’t need a genius to tell the actual mastermind behind the civil servant of the Ministry of Youth and Sports involved in RM100 million scandal when he helmed the ministry. The perception that Oxford-educated Khairy was relatively clean and efficient is largely because 99% of UMNO leaders and ministers were clueless, incompetent, corrupt and not highly educated.

Make no mistake – Khairy and Hishammuddin were not punished because they challenged Zahid’s presidency. They were sacked and suspended for betraying the party – destroying UMNO internally by working the enemies like Bersatu and PAS, as well as sabotaging Barisan Nasional candidates and campaign during election by sponsoring independent candidates as in the case of Noh Omar.

Hishammuddin, who is also the grandson of Onn Jaafar who founded UMNO in 1946, and the eldest son of 3rd Prime Minister Hussein Onn, thought he belonged to an UMNO blue-blood hence “untouchable”. Likewise, Khairy, who is the son-in-law of 6th Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, thought he was part of the elite club and also untouchable. But both arrogant warlords hadn’t a clue what Zahid was capable of.

Ironically, Hishammuddin and Khairy were the same UMNO racists who happily waved their respective “Keris” (Malay dagger) during the party general assembly in despicable attempts to frighten and threaten minorities Chinese and Indians. Today, that same weapon – the keris symbol on UMNO flags – has come back to end their political career.

Both Khairy and Hishammuddin would instantly withdraw support for the Anwar-led unity government if they managed to topple Zahid. Their loyalty has been with Muhyiddin since they were bribed with senior ministry portfolios in March 2020. True, Zahid isn’t as educated as Khairy and not as eloquent as Hishammuddin. But at least Zahid refused to surrender to Mahathir during UMNO’s darkest days. - FT
