We are ‘kings’ of our country….

When the dissolution of parliament was announced, I felt a sense of lightness and serenity that I remembered only once other on the morning of GE14 aftermath. I walked as if the aches and pains of old age were no longer there and the future seemed painted with wisps of white clouds with a slight hint of sun rays of the early dawn.

I will recount five reasons why I think that this particular ‘forced dissolution’ is a sign from heaven that we, the Malaysian people, may actually have another chance at reclaiming our beloved homeland from the corrupt, religious zealots and civil servants that have forgotten that it is WE who are their masters, not the PM or the KSN (Ketua Setiausaha Negara). WE the Rakyat.

Firstly, I am most happy to finally see the end of the ‘disgusting’ career of the worst of the worst speakers of parliament I have ever witnessed. Such arrogance, such incompetence and such vulgarity of spirit that cannot be counted by any religious faith or human decency.

He was appointed by Muhyiddin and since PPBM will be dead when PAS abandons them for its original ‘husband’ Umno, whichever government wins it will not be PN and Muhyiddin will not be able to extend the career of that man, the worst speaker in Malaysia’s last 40 years of my witness.

Secondly, we the rakyat can now refer to Muhyiddin as Saudara Mahiaddin and Azmin as Abang Azmin or Pak Cik Azmin and Zuraida as Mak Cik Zu or perhaps Nenek Zu. These are the people that have hurt Malaysians the most and the dissolution have made them ‘ordinary’ again and now coming to ask for us to vote them in. Good luck trying-lah.

PPBM who wielded vast powers after the Sheraton Move dwindled in strength with Ismail Sabri at the helm and now Bersatu jatuh merudum with the dissolution of parliament. It is a lesson to all parliamentarians, setinggi tinggi tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh juga ke tanah.

Thirdly, know that this dissolution is the desperate move of one man and one man only, Zahid Hamidi. Zahid needs to win in an election and save his seat before the November verdict that may find him guilty. That way, he can still be ‘PM’ and go for a long appeal and federal court process if need be.

For a party to go to an election war with only one date to consider without any other option, that party will stand to lose big. Umno is of two factions. Now Zahid is back in power and the Ismail gang, I suspect, have already had their candidacy signed by Zahid as a bargaining chip for dissolution of parliament.

But like Khairy, these people may have to fight for a decent constituency, and that is not easy because it will be like being in a den of thieves. There is no trust or loyalty and the only currency recognized briefly is money.

Umno is at its weakest and declaring an election war with this disunity and the anger of the rakyat over the banjir is not the ideal scenario for them. So, what that Umno won handsomely the two state elections of Melaka and Johor, those were masterful calculations that no one would return in a Covid situation and the economics of travels were not advantageous.

But now the full wrath of Malaysians will fall on Umno and even when PAS ditches Bersatu and come on the BN bandwagon, many Malays may have been disillusioned by the massive corruption value and the callousness of flood relief effort. With the military corruption being showcased day by day, will the postal votes of the armed forces still be with Umno? I pray not.

Fourthly, Rafizi’s Ayuh Malaysia and his many strategic allegations of corruptions in the military is gaining momentum day by day, especially after several months of non-stop campaigning. Umno was still fighting with Ismail Sabri’s deflection of the issue of dissolution. The Ayuh Malaysia and the Reformasi cry of Lawan Tetap Lawan has resurfaced after a twenty-year legacy.

Fifthly, the social and print media have gone to war on corruption and the misdeeds of Umno since a year ago. Sinar Harian leads with their Rasuah Busters that recently saw an academic and a Sultan calling the Malay politicians as ‘hypocrites in Islam’…a very harsh term indeed.

YouTubers like Zaharin, Iswardy Morni and Reggie Jessie Rithaudeen have been banging to the Malay and Malaysian audience with relentless energy that I think these three deserve a civil society award of the highest kind.

With all these reasons, I feel a sense that great things can happen within the next thirty days if Malaysians can keep the momentum going and urge all and everyone to come out and vote against these people who have stolen our children’s future.- Prof Dr. Mohd Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi

Pembangkang pula jangan ego
& bercakaran sesama sendiri...

- A.Kadir Jasin

The trap is sprung...

Why did the PM Ismail Sabri suddenly agree to Zahid Hamidi's  pressure to dissolve Parliament? Just about two months back, when Najib was not yet put into jail, Ismail Sabri was simply ignoring both Najib and Zahid Hamidi's non stop pressure that Parliament should be dissolved. Ismail Sabri did not even bother to attend those UMNO meetings called by Zahid.

Now Najib is already in jail. Its only Zahid Hamidi left and Zahid is not even a Cabinet Minister. Granted he is party president of Umno but he was also president two months ago. So why did Ismail Sabri suddenly agree  to Zahid's request that Parliament be dissolved?

This dissolution of Parliament is not acceptable to a large majority of people including Malays who are traditional supporters of Umno and BN. This dissolution only makes them more disappointed with UMNO and the BN. Umno will lose even more votes.

The idea behind having a General Election during the north-east monsoon flood season is very simple. It is to discourage the voters from going out to vote. If the polling stations are under water, it is even better for those politicians who feel that this time around they stand a better chance of winning if the turnout is as low as possible.

They are seriously mistaken. Even if Gunung Krakatoa explodes and a flood of Noah's Ark proportions befalls the country, the voters will still go out to vote. I certainly will be voting. I have raincoats and umbrellas.

After 63 years the Malaysian voters kicked out UMNO / BN in 2018. Unfortunately UMNO/BN have managed to wriggle back into power. So come hell or high water the voters will come out again in GE15 and slam that wooden stake right through the heart to permanently kill the beast.  This time we seriously have to finish them off.

My view is this is a trap into which Umno has fallen. So who set the trap? The usual suspects are those two senior gentlemen.  This dissolution does not help Umno. I have not yet heard any person who agrees with this 'Undi Banjir'. They are all waiting to go out and vote against Umno. Just wait and see. - Syed Akbar Ali

cheers.

Time to punish traitors & power-crazy UMNO....

How the King was ambushed
to dissolve Parliament...

After months of pressure from his own party, PM Ismail Sabri has finally announced the dissolution of Parliament on Monday (Oct 10), paving the way for the 15th General Election. Malaysia will now go to the polls within 60 days. This also means Sabri is effectively the shortest serving prime minister – just 14 months, worse than his predecessor Mahiaddin Yassin’s 17 months.

It’s highly unlikely that the turtle-egg man would become a prime minister again, even if the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) wins the snap election. Regardless whether UMNO wins big or not, the party’s president – Ahmad Zahid Hamidi – would be the first choice for the top job. Only by becoming the prime minister can Zahid order the judiciary to drop all his corruption charges.

Traditionally, the prime minister post is reserved for UMNO president by virtue as the leader of the most dominant political party since independence in 1957. Zahid is the only UMNO president who did not get the job – a humiliation he desperately wants to redeem. Armed with a huge win in the Melaka and Johor state elections, the top leadership of UMNO believes they can also win the national election.

Lame duck Sabri had never expected to become the country’s 9th Prime Minister. The accidental premier was lucky to be at the right place at the right time. After traitor Mahiaddin was himself backstabbed and betrayed in August 2021 by an UMNO faction led by Zahid and ex-PM Najib Razak, Zahid badly wanted the premiership, but could not due to his ongoing corruption trial.

Forced to reluctantly withdraw his name, Zahid’s elimination saw the candidate went to the party’s second in command – UMNO deputy president Mohamad Hasan. However, the No. 2 man was quickly disqualified as he was merely an assemblyman. Therefore, Sabri got the job despite only ranked third in UMNO’s hierarchy. He was considered a seat warmer for Zahid from the beginning.

In his special announcement to dissolve the Parliament today, PM Ismail Sabri said the Agong (King) had given the royal consent. But the question is whether the King had willingly agreed or was pressured by the power-hungry UMNO leaders. Last Thursday (Oct 6), Sabri said that “if possible”, he would submit a proposed date for the dissolution of Parliament when he met the monarch.

However, the prime minister did not discuss the matter during his audience at the Palace. On the same day, King Sultan Abdullah said that he wanted the Ministry of Environment and Water to pay attention to the country’s early warning disaster system in preparation for floods. There were wild rumours that the Parliament would be dissolved right after Budget 2023 was presented.

If the Dewan Rakyat (Lower House of Representatives) is dissolved before the annual Budget can be debated and approved, it has to be presented again in the Parliament after a new government is formed. Essentially, the pre-election budget would be flooded with sweet promises or unrealistic allocations to fish for votes, which Sabri government did on Friday with the biggest budget in history – a whopping RM372.3 billion.

On Sunday (Oct 9), two days later, speaking at the national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian King again called on all relevant agencies to make thorough and comprehensive preparations to face the risk of massive floods. If the monarch had already given his consent on Thursday, why did he hypocritically talk about flooding?

The monarch warned – “Every year in November, the country is faced with the risk of flooding, and recently, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicted that Malaysia would face heavy rains and the risk of major floods. I would like to remind my subjects to brace themselves and make preparations to face possible weather phenomena.”

In case UMNO leaders still didn’t get the message, or pretend to not understand the message, the King said – “The concept of administration demanded by Islam is a trust that is always within the scope of the divine covenant between human beings and their Creator. So everything that the leader does must be done solely on the basis of safeguarding the welfare of the ummah (community).”

The royal message to national leaders to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s administration in various aspects of life, including the concept of administration based on good governance, politics, economy, security and justice was the clearest show of displeasure from the Malay Ruler, who disapproved selfish political agenda of the United Malays National Organization.

In another lecture to UMNO leaders, the monarch said – “Prophet Muhammad prioritised the interests of the many over individuals. He did not fight for a narrow agenda, but acted justly by developing an idea for the well-being of the ummah”. It was a slap in the face of UMNO leaders aligned to president Zahid over their selfish desire for power as they continued to pressure for a national election.

King Sultan Abdullah also showed that he too knows how to play the religion card when he reminded UMNO-Malays or UMNO-Muslims that Prophet Muhammad had taught every leader to set the right intentions, be honest in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them, and embrace the value of “taqwa (piety)” as the main principle.

The Ruler warned about floods every November. He revealed the weather forecast about major floods. He reminded that Islam demands a trustworthy government. He even quoted the selfless Prophet Muhammad’s administration that prioritised the people. He was targeting Mr Zahid, who doesn’t care about floods, isn’t a trustworthy leader, and selfishly wanted to become the next prime minister by hook or by crook.

To distance himself from UMNO toxic politics, the monarch had even decided to leave for London on a week-long special visit (Oct 10 – Oct 16) to the United Kingdom. The King doesn’t actually need to go, but he purposely chose to meet with British newly crowned King Charles III just to pay a courtesy call, less than a month after he went there to pay his last respects to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Sept 8.

It would be strange and unprecedented for the Malaysian King to leave the country if indeed he had consented to the dissolution of the Parliament. But Prime Minister Ismail Sabri scrambled to meet the King again on Sunday after they attended the Prophet’s Birthday celebration together earlier in the morning. Clearly, the Agong was ambushed before he could fly to Britain.

In a statement today, the Palace revealed how PM Sabri made an “unscheduled audience” at noon on Sunday (Oct 9) to pressure the King to dissolve the Parliament. The royal statement, issued by the Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said that the Agong had no choice but to give his consent due to “disappointing” political developments.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri - Clueless

The simple fact that the Palace issued a statement merely “two hours” after Mr Ismail’s announcement of the dissolution of the Parliament shows that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) was extremely upset with the UMNO-Malay leaders. The royal statement was to “clarify to the people” that the monarch had never agreed to hold an election during the monsoon season.

It would be both foolish and hypocritical for the monarch to talk about the floods and the teachings of Islam while at the same time agreed with UMNO to hold an election. Last year’s floods killed 54 and caused RM6 billion in losses, not to mention at least 60,000 people were left at evacuation centres at the peak of the flooding. But why did the royal house agree to Sabri’s eleventh hour demand?

The clue can be found in the statement released by the Palace. The royal statement said – “His majesty expressed his disappointment with the current political situation and his majesty had no choice but to consent to the prime minister’s request to allow the mandate to be returned to the people to choose a stable government“. The key word here is “stable government”.

The King most likely had pre-emptively rejected the idea of dissolving the Parliament during his session with the prime minister last Thursday. That explains why there wasn’t any discussion about it in the first place during Sabri’s audience at the Palace. The errand boy then rushed to meet his party president on the same day, only to be taught how to threaten the Malay Monarch.

Ketika rakyatnya duduk berkubang dalam banjir,
depa senang2 berselesa duduk sila panggung...

Yes, not only the King had been ambushed, he also has been threatened. And based on the royal statement, Sabri – either deliberately or obediently – appears to have threatened the King on behalf of UMNO that the government could collapse anytime should consent to dissolve the Parliament not granted. Worse, power-crazy Zahid might choose to topple the government when the monsoon season is in full swing.

If Zahid suddenly suspends (part of political drama) the UMNO membership of Sabri in the middle of heavy rains and floods, which typically starts around late November and could last until March (next year), it could create a leadership crisis, which pro-UMNO bloggers, cyber troopers, propagandists and news media would blame on Sultan Abdullah’s refusal to act early.

Even if the turtle-egg man has the balls to fight his president, which he hasn’t, the country could be plunged into chaos as the legitimacy of the prime minister will need to be tested. Despite Opposition’s pledge to support the premier, government resources to help flood victims might not be mobilized as the so-called Malay-Muslim government would be busy fighting for power.

Since the democratically elected Pakatan Harapan government was toppled by the treachery and betrayal of Muhyiddin in March 2020, history has shown that the backdoor government (first Muhyiddin and then Sabri) will always prioritize position and power of politicians instead of the welfare of the people. Muhyiddin’s Covid mishandling saw 13,000 people killed and Sabri’s incompetence caused 54 deaths during floods last year.

King Sultan Abdullah knew UMNO’s dirty political move was dangerous as angry people will certainly blame UMNO as well as the royal house for deaths due to floods. Worse, the royal institution will be slammed as a forked-tongue monarch that happily flies away on holiday in the U.K., leaving the people to take care of themselves. Hence, the urgent royal message to pass the ball back to UMNO.

But the damage has been done. Moving forward, the people can only pray that the floods will not be serious. However, if UMNO is not punished, they will repeat the same political drama again in the future. Not only UMNO must be taught a lesson, the snap election now opens the door for the people eagerly waiting to slaughter all the Bersatu traitors led by Muhyiddin Yassin and Azmin Ali. - FT

"His Majesty expressed his disappointment with current political development and has no other choice but to grant the request by Prime Minister to return the mandate to the people to chose a stable government"...

Dengar cakap mereka

Kita jangan tawar hati. Kita mesti keluar mengundi. Pembangkang janganlah ego tidak tentu hala. Berpakatlah demi negara dan rakyat jelata. Wajib sekat kleptokrat daripada balik berkuasa. - A.Kadir Jasin

So now what happens to all
the promises made in Budget 2023?...

The PM says he met the YDP Agong on Sunday afternoon (9th October 2022, yesterday) to get the YDP Agong's consent to dissolve Parliament.

Two days before on Friday 7th October (at 4PM) the Minister of Finance Zafrul delivered the Budget 2023 speech in Parliament. From Zafrul's Budget speech at 4PM on Friday until the PM meeting the YDP Agong on Sunday afternoon would be about 48 hours.

Surely the Prime Minister must have known (on Friday) that he would be meeting the King on Sunday to ask to dissolve Parliament. So why get the Finance Minister to still deliver the Budget speech on Friday? There is no guarantee that UMNO/BN will return to power after the 15th General Elections (to implement their proposed Budget 2023).

The PM has also said that Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor need not dissolve their State Assemblies. According to media reports Penang, Kedah, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan would also not be dissolving their State Assemblies.

If so, that would be status quo in 8 States. Only 5 States Perak, Perlis, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu will be dissolving their State Assemblies. The Opposition can concentrate more manpower and resources to contest State seats in only five States.

But what happens to all the promises made in the Budget 2023? The Civil Servants have been promised money and goodies. The people have been promised this and that. RM372 Billion worth of promises. The Budget 2023 has become nonsensical. Budget 2023 is gone. Because Parliament has been dissolved.

Surely by last Friday the Prime Minister was already planning the dissolution of Parliament. But the Finance Minister did not know? He went ahead and delivered his Budget speech? What are they going to say? Vote for us and we will deliver Budget 2023?

You have to win the elections first. This time around it will not be so easy. Can UMNO / BN even win 30 seats? Lets see. - Syed Akbar Ali

cheers.

The suspenseful 48 hours…

The suspenseful 48 hours….
And still no dissolution yet!...

On Wednesday, a day before prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was to have an audience with the King, there were talks from within Umno that the dissolution of parliament would be announced immediately after the PM has met the King instead of Friday noon.

However, after the PM left the Istana on Thursday, he headed straight to the Umno headquarters to brief the rest of the party’s Top Five. Umno leaders suddenly had their lips tightly zipped, busily engaged in one meeting after another. The joyful atmosphere merely a day earlier seemed to have suddenly dissipated. Something could have gone wrong with their “parliament dissolution” aspiration.

The first question that flashed past the minds of many was: did the King reject the PM’s proposal to dissolve the parliament? The palace issued a statement in the evening clarifying that the meeting between the PM and His Majesty was only a regular meeting for them to discuss and exchange views on government affairs and some issues. The simple and concise statement made no mention of dissolution of parliament.

The second question that flashed past our minds was this: did Ismail seek His Majesty’s consent to dissolve the parliament? Thursday morning, His Majesty made an unannounced visit to the national flood forecasting and warning center to listen to its briefing, and this has released a very important message, that the King places the well-being of the rakyat before anything else!

He wanted to personally listen to the center’s briefing so that he could make a proper decision instead of hastily consenting to the proposal to dissolve the parliament.

On the other hand, after Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz went to the Istana on Wednesday to brief the King on the 2023 Budget as well as financial outlook and economic report, he said he firmly believed it was the right move to table the Budget at parliament on Friday as planned because of the many measures that would benefit the rakyat in this Budget.

To be honest, even one day is too long in politics. In a similar manner, the plans we have can never keep up with the changes, the past 48 hours being a classical example. As such, it will not come as a surprise to anyone if the grand design of “dissolution” seemingly nipped in the bud is suddenly resuscitated within a week or so.

In the meantime, the 12 Perikatan Nasional ministers writing to the King to oppose to a general election this year are perceived by some in Umno as backstabbing PM Ismail. Umno youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki questioned whether the move of these ministers could be interpreted as cabinet ministers losing faith in the PM.

Asyraf wrote on Facebook on Thursday that Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution states that if the Prime Minister ceases to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives, he must tender the resignation of the cabinet. But to these PN ministers, writing to the King cannot be construed as they losing faith in the PM, but speaking on behalf of the rakyat against having the election during the monsoon season.

Other than Umno which wants very badly to have the election this year, other political parties and alliances, in particular PH and PN, have wanted the election to be held next year so that they can have more time to discuss and pool their resources together to fight BN. Postponing the election will also give disenchanted voters now reluctant to vote sufficient time to pick up their enthusiasm once again, thus boosting the morale of the opposition parties.

BN may not lose the support of the people if they are able to shed the burden of the Court Cluster by then and come up with innovative and people-friendly policies to engage the voters. The rakyat want the ruling and opposition parties to abandon their antiquated discriminatory, religion-centric, abusive and anti-constructive political struggles.

Among the things Ismail has done after taking over the helm such as signing an MoU with PH on behalf of the government, allowing the anti-hopping and anti-sexual harassment bills to be passed in parliament, plus a couple of other things he has pledged to do next, including tabling the political funding bill, restoring the parliamentary services act and limiting the PM’s tenure – all these are positive developments that have served to fortify BN’s political ammunition.

From what we gather from the extensive nationwide “What Rakyat Want” survey jointly conducted by Sin Chew Daily, The Star, Sinar Harian, Astro Awani and Malaysia Nanban on what Malaysians from different ethnic backgrounds in East and West Malaysia expect from the new government post-GE15, along with the incisive analyses by political analysts and observers, we have arrived at the conclusion that Malaysians want political stability and more focus on economic revival and the eradication of corruption for the well-being of all rakyat irrespective of race and religion.

Whether the election is to be held this year or next year, all politicians must be constantly reminded of what the rakyat want.We have entrusted you with power with the hope you can dutifully serve the nation irrespective of race, religion or cultural background, not to satiate your personal desires with the mandate we have given you. Malaysians today are so much more sober than many of our politicians, as we know very well who is good or evil. - MySinchew

Menteri Kewangan Zafrul Aziz telah mengetepikan isu rasionalisasi subsidi serta cara membiayai defisit hampir RM100 bilion. Kerajaan katanya akan ambil kira perkenalkan GST & reformasi cukai lain tahun depan apabila tiba masanya.- Melissa Goh

Political stability after GE15?
 Get real, people...

One thing that Umno has been drumming in people’s minds is that the government needs to expedite the 15th general election (GE15) as the current “hybrid government” was unstable.Well, we can all agree that post-Sheraton Move, almost everything in the country has become unstable, but if one thinks GE15 will bring political stability to Malaysia, one must be naïve indeed.

For starters, let’s picture a scenario where Umno-BN wins with a simple majority to form the government. If that happens, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamid would claim the premiership for himself. So what if they had decided on Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as their poster boy? It doesn’t really matter when it comes to politics.

Since Merdeka until the fall of BN in 2018, it is the Umno president who sat on the prime minister’s chair. Hence, speaking from tradition, Zahid has every right to become the next prime minister if Umno wins GE15.

This is where the instability will come in. Having tasted power and adulation, one would be naïve to think Ismail Sabri will take this lying down. While he may appear oblivious to things at most times, one can safely say that Ismail Sabri is no pushover and would not back down from a fight when it is needed.

Bear in mind, he has taken this one year plus to shore up support, not only within Umno but also outside of BN. The two will definitely clash for the top job, and the loser is unlikely to back down and wait another day to take on the new prime minister.

Zahid vs Ismail Sabri vs Najib

Assuming Zahid manages to “vanquish” Ismail Sabri, he would be facing another problem from Umno as well – the cult of Bossku. Though both appear to be on the same page since 2018, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s supporters would definitely pressure Zahid to get the Pekan MP pardoned. With Najib free, he could make another move for the premiership – and this would anger Zahid and cause another level of political instability in the country.

On the flip side, even if Ismail Sabri is retained as prime minister after defeating Zahid, the latter will join forces with Najib to undermine the former out of spite. And there goes Malaysia’s political stability.

Now, let’s check out another scenario in which Pakatan Harapan emerges victorious and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim becomes the prime minister. Again, as we have seen post-2018, both Umno and PAS would agitate the crowd using the “the non-Muslims have taken over the country” narrative again.

They may exploit the race and religion rhetoric to the hilt like what had happened during former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s second stint as premier. But this time, the agitation may be louder.

While both Umno and PAS were careful with the nonagenarian given his past-autocratic tendencies, they may not be that measured with Anwar given that he has always been painted as a “traitor to the nation and Malays” since his ouster from Umno in 1998.

Let Umno be the opposition

The point I’m trying to drive here is – in both scenarios – it would be Umno-BN which would be causing the instability like what has happened since the Sheraton Move. So what can we do to ensure we have a stable government for some time? In my view, the answer is to send Umno-BN to the opposition aisle for at least two parliamentary terms.

Yes, they will join forces with PAS to cause problems for the new government but this is where the latter must focus on reforms and keep close communication with the public on what is being done and why it is being done.

The new government must then show no mercy to those who play the race and religion card. I think the public has had enough of such nonsense and they need leaders who can address pressing matters such as the rising cost of living, poverty, unemployment, and others. Besides, the general public is quite clear by now that much of Umno and PAS’ past rhetoric was nothing but a political stunt with little regard for the people’s real struggles.

If my projection is right, Umno will start reinventing and rejuvenating itself within 10 years, with good junior leaders finally mustering the courage to get rid of their tainted superiors. How can we know whether good leaders have taken over Umno in the future? For starters, they will start working as an effective opposition in Parliament.

Simply put, if Umno (as an opposition) manages to keep the government of the day on their toes over day-to-day issues, we can positively say that they have “earned the people’s trust” to take over Putrajaya again. The sad thing about Umno is that the party could have reformed itself by now if not for Bersatu’s treachery towards Harapan, which brought the nationalist party back to power prematurely.

So, it’s time for the people to give Umno-BN another shot at redeeming themselves. Who knows, we may have another Tunku Abdul Rahman or Onn Jaafar helming the party in the near future. - G.Vinod,mk

Ponorogo kena scam....

The date to dissolve Parliament was not discussed during Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob's audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

This was confirmed by a well-placed source in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and was supported by information Malaysiakini gathered from the palace.

When asked whether the date of dissolution was discussed with the king, the PMO source replied briefly: “It was not discussed.”

Meanwhile, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin told Malaysiakini that today’s audience was just a pre-cabinet briefing.

“Today was just a pre-cabinet meeting, a weekly meeting,” he said when contacted. “His Majesty did not decree to make any statement,” he said, adding that this would likely mean the government will proceed with business as usual and table Budget 2023 today.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong (above) is concerned by what he learned during this morning’s briefing on the year-end floods, according to a source who was in the room.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the government insider said Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was briefed about the Northeast Monsoon season, which is expected to start next month and last until next March.

The monarch was said to have indicated his concern about what impact the 15th general election (GE15) would cause on the rakyat should it coincide with the monsoon.

“Tuanku was concerned about having the elections with the upcoming Northeast Monsoon season, as it will burden the rakyat.

The Agong visited the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, where he was given a briefing by Environment and Water Ministry secretary-general Zaini Ujang and Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.

The king’s visit to the centre comes amid Umno’s top brass clamouring for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve Parliament immediately to pave way for GE15, which they insist to have held before this year ends.

A climate change expert recently warned against having the general election before February next year, saying the flood situation during the monsoon season might be worse than it was last year. - mk

Elections? For what?
And for whose benefit?...

The term of the current government, the third in power since May 2018, will end in mid-July 2023, less than a year’s time. But a bunch of selfish politicians are calling for an early general election as if they own the country.

Inflation and the declining value of the ringgit has hit every household, but some party leaders are already salivating at the prospect of regaining the power and monetary benefits that they lost in the 2018 general election. Not so much about helping the rakyat in these challenging times.

It’s distressing to know that there are very few options available for Malaysians. Old and tainted politicians are offering themselves again while the youth who have been given the power to vote are nowhere in sight. Where are the young leaders?

People are hoping that the youth will make the difference and produce new leaders who can change the political landscape. No such luck.

While the leaders in certain countries are getting younger, like Sanna Marin, Finland’s Prime Minister at the age of 34, and more women are given a chance to lead, like Britain’s Liz Truss and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, Malaysia is likely to get old and tainted men long past their shelf life.

With one former prime minister Najib Razak in and out of jail, and one very old person, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, claiming “altruism” and offering to be PM for the third time, there is nothing to look forward to. Malaysia has been the laughing stock of the world far too long.

Race and religion is a drawcard for some ignorant people but it’s off-putting for many who seek a different kind of Malaysia. While East Malaysians have kept their racial and religious harmony intact despite Umno’s presence in Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia politicians are still splitting the people and turning one against the other.

Gone and not coming back...

People who are fed up have left our shores and many others are seeking to leave. Many students who have graduated in foreign countries refuse to come back, except for holidays, to enjoy the food or to reconnect with their families.

Malaysia is still their home but they prefer to keep their distance. Earning better salaries overseas, and enjoying the freedom and a good life, there is no reason to come back and face the same kind of corrupt leaders who do not appreciate what they can contribute to the country. These Malaysian graduates are now helping developed countries in the field of IT, science and medicine.

Just look at the advancement of Perth, Australia. It just proves that Malaysian immigrants can make a difference and bring diversity and service for the people irrespective of race and religion. I am talking about Sam Lim, the Muar-born Malaysian who became the MP for Tangey.

Even our Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a tweet, failed to recognise the significance of the event when he praised Lim who spoke for a few seconds in Bahasa Melayu in his maiden speech at the Australian Parliament.

Sam Lim...
The example of Sam Lim...

Our prime minister’s number one priority is to speak in Bahasa Melayu — used by probably less than 3% of the world’s population. But Ismail failed to mention that Sam Lim spoke mostly in English and also in Chinese, his mother tongue. Most graduates from local universities can hardly converse in English or compete on merit, like Sam Lim in his adopted country. This is truly “Malaysia Boleh”.

If Sam Lim (an ex-police officer) had remained in Malaysia, he would have remained in the lower ranks of the police force because of his race, and his children would have been educated at a mediocre local university (if they can get past the Bumiputera quota).

Malaysia is different from the time of formation in 1963. It’s no longer inclusive for all people. There is the class of elitist Malay politicians, the digital divide between urban and rural areas, and inequality between the B40 and the top strata of the Malaysian population, which is getting wider mostly due to external factors beyond our control. And there is climate change, bringing greater floods and environmental damage.

Pakatan Harapan’s failings...

There was hope and renewed faith in Malaysia when Pakatan Harapan dislodged Umno-BN from its stranglehold on all facets of Malaysian life. Umno-BN was not particularly bad, and admittedly did bring development while also helping themselves to the riches of what Malaysia has to offer.

Unfortunately, PH’s leadership remained very much in an Umno mentality carried over by former members of that party. Mahathir and Muhyiddin, and now Ismail, carry the same political DNA; they’ve only changed clothes. The phrase a leopard cannot change its spots is an apt description of the Umno remnants.

The real reason to vote...

The current confidence and supply agreement between political parties should continue. In this arrangement, a party or independent MPs support the government in motions of confidence and budget appropriations, by agreeing to either vote in favour or abstaining, as they are now doing to prop up Ismail’s government. This is already in place. It’s not a perfect system, but it seems to be working for Malaysia in the interim.

The downside is the compromise with PAS, who are bent on introducing shariah laws and turning Malaysia into an Islamic state much like Iran and Afghanistan. Banning concerts and warning Muslims against saying RIP are examples of their bigoted minds. Previously, we had the Allah issue, and then Muslims being told not to wish Christians, Merry Christmas and so forth.

If there is any reason to call for an election, it is to give PAS a drubbing at the polls. - Joe Samad

 Bubar Parlimen?

Bubar Parlimen hari ini? Kan saya kata jgn panik. Tuanku pergi dengar taklimat banjir sebab baginda nak fikir nasib 30 juta rakyat Malaysia bukan nak fikir nasib ‘Wak Ponorogo’ tu seorang. Suka hati Wak Ponorogo nak tetapkan PRU bila.

Apa kata Mail, “ Kalau sempat"… haaaaaa… maksudnya tak penting nak bincang bubarkan Parlimen. Wak…PN rakan kongsi BN dlm kerajaan campuran pun dah serahkan surat mohon pekenan baginda tidak bersetuju membubarkan Parlimen. Jadi Wak jgn salahkan PH jika ia tertangguh….

Sebab yg jadi PM org UMNO, yg hantar surat pada Agong anggota kabinet PN. Nak bisik dekat Wak… tu lebai yg tak mahu bercerai dgn UMNO pun sign juga. - Norman Radzuan

Banduan VVVIP nak masuk Parlimen pulak....

Prisons Dept rejected Najib’s bid to attend Dewan Rakyat...

2015 - Prison Dept rejected Anwar's request too.
What so special with Mat Sakau?...

Dissolve Parliament –
Agong might throw out request...

Ahmad Zahid Hamid, president of UMNO, can heave a sigh of relief. He could finally see a light at the end of the tunnel after the High Court on Sept 23 acquitted him of all 40 bribery charges. He was so grateful that he boastfully said he has had faith in the judiciary since “day one”, when the hypocrite had wanted to sack the Chief Justice and Attorney General just before the verdict.

However, the former deputy prime minister isn’t out of the wood yet. The president of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO)  is still on trial in another corruption case where he is accused of 47 criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering charges. Attorney General Idrus Harun has decided to appeal against Zahid’s acquittal.

Still, Zahid isn’t worried though. He knew that the prosecution’s appeal against the High Court’s decision to free him was just another political drama. It would be too obvious if A.G. Idrus refused to appeal. It would show that the Attorney General’s Chambers had received orders from those who walk the corridors of power to deliberately screw up the case in order to free the crook.

PM Ismail Sabri has lost in the game of brinkmanship. Under tremendous pressure from his own party, the turtle-egg man blinked. The accidental prime minister is powerless against his party president, whose signature to sign the letter of candidacy (“surat watikah”) for all UMNO candidates to contest in the upcoming 15th General Election is more powerful than Sabri’s premiership.

That was the power that incarcerated former Prime Minister Najib Razak did not possess. If the party president’s signature isn’t required for UMNO candidates to contest in the national election, Zahid would be game-over ages ago. If only Najib had been smarter – contested the 2018 UMNO leadership election and won the presidency – he might not need to spend his time in prison today.

After the High Court set him free, Mr Zahid is not as desperate as before for the general election, which is not due till Sept 14, 2023. His remaining 47 corruption charges would take years to conclude. Even if the prosecution’s appeal against his acquittal succeeded, it would probably take 2 years before the whole appeal process through the Court of Appeal and Federal Court is finally exhausted.

Crooked Zahid just wanted the High Court to free him so that he can contest in the upcoming election. The Federal Constitution’s Article 48(5) says a person is “immediately” disqualified from being nominated, elected or appointed to be a federal lawmaker in either the Dewan Rakyat or Dewan Negara, upon the person’s conviction and sentencing to a minimum one-year jail term or a minimum fine of RM2,000.

Worse, under Article 48(3), a person remains disqualified from being an MP for five years from the day he or she is released from imprisonment. Had Zahid been convicted, his ambition to become the next prime minister will vanish. And he would be long forgotten after he served his jail sentence and walked out of the prison. His political career would be over.

So, why is Zahid still pushing for a snap election this year, with heavy rains and floods associated with the annual monsoon season, which typically starts around late November and could last until March (next year)? Last year, the country saw 8 of the 11 states hit by floods in December. At least 54 were killed, while 60,000 people were forced into relief shelters.

The arrogant UMNO president has mocked the Opposition’s rejection of election this year, arguing that they are afraid of losing, largely due to UMNO’s big win in the Melaka (Nov 2021) and Johor (March 2022) state elections. However, based on Zahid’s incredible confidence, UMNO could still win next year, could it not? So, what’s the difference if the election is called next year – after the monsoon season is over?

A week is a long time in politics. Zahid wants to become the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia as soon as possible. He has already set the record as the only UMNO president who is not the prime minister since independence in 1957 – a humiliation. But there are other strategic reasons why he is pushing PM Sabri, his junior party colleague, to call for a snap election this year.

First of all, Zahid and his minions believed that UMNO should strike when the iron is hot, taking advantage of the jailing of Najib to win sympathy votes from gullible Malays who still believe the crook is innocent. Second, UMNO typically wins when voter turnout is low, hence the best time is to hold an election when it floods. Third, it’s easier to cheat when dubious votes can be switched or swapped during monsoon season.

Fourth, the UMNO chief flexed his muscle to show that when he ordered Sabri to jump, the incompetent premier can only ask how high. On Friday (Sept 30), the top five UMNO leadership – party president Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan, and the three vice-presidents (Khaled Nordin, Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail Sabri himself) – met and agreed to dissolve the Parliament this year.

The lame duck premier said he agreed to UMNO’s call for the general election to be held this year. Even if people eventually perish due to floods, people’s anger will not be on Zahid alone. The turtle-egg man still has no clue that he is being made the “poster boy” to take all the blames when things go south. As the country’s leader, Sabri cannot point his finger at Zahid and claim ignorance.

Fifth, UMNO is absolutely afraid that inflation could get worse next year to the extent of triggering a recession. The local currency – Ringgit – is expected to continue its free fall for the remaining 2022, and even till middle of next year because the U.S. Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates for at least another year. People are going to be very angry over skyrocketing prices of goods.

After losing power for the first time in history in the 2018 General Election, UMNO cannot afford another defeat. It also helps that the opposition parties are in disarray and failed to unite to avoid multi-cornered contests. On the same Friday Sabri was forced to agree to dissolve the Parliament, UMNO secretary-general Ahmad Maslan made a pre-emptive strike.

Maslan announced that UMNO vice-president, who is also PM Ismail Sabri, would meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) to dissolve the Parliament, paving the way for a General Election this year, widely speculated to be in November. However, the prime minister might not be able to convince the Malaysian King to dissolve the Dewan Rakyat (Lower House of Representative).

While Article 43 of the Federal Constitution gives authority to the prime minister, who is the head of the executive branch, to decide whether to seek an audience and request the King to dissolve the House, the King may prologue or dissolves Parliament under Article 55 (2). This means PM Sabri could only advise the King, but it’s the monarch’s prerogative to dissolve the Parliament.

In fact, it was Ismail Sabri himself, who said in June this year that he cannot get ahead of the King by announcing the date for the 15th General Election. He also said that after discussion with the UMNO top leadership, and brought to the party’s Supreme Council and later Barisan Nasional Supreme Council, the matter has to be discussed in Cabinet, who would then give him the mandate to seek an audience with the King.

Interestingly, Ahmad Maslan has deliberately and prematurely announced that the PM would seek an audience with the King – even before the Cabinet agrees to UMNO’s plan to call a snap election. Therefore, it was already disrespectful to the monarch when UMNO bypassed the Cabinet. Heck, the power-hungry UMNO warlords have not even discussed with the Barisan Nasional Supreme Council.

Did Sabri lie when he said in June that he had to get the Cabinet’s mandate to seek an audience with the King? Or did he lie now that he can go directly to the King without the Cabinet’s mandate? It’s worth mentioning that it was the King who appointed a “Jemaah Menteri” (Cabinet of Ministers) and the Cabinet shall be collectively responsible to Parliament.

UMNO has only 38 MPs and even if included the entire Barisan Nasional, the coalition has merely 42 MPs. It’s not rocket science that PM Sabri or UMNO does not represent the majority of the MPs in the 222-seat Parliament. Without the mandate from the Cabinet, the King could assume that the Prime Minister ceases to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the House of Representative.

The King could order Sabri to table a motion of confidence in his leadership. There could be a new prime minister if the monarch disagrees to the request to dissolve the Parliament based on public order or national security – the same way how the King rejected then-PM Muhyiddin Yassin’s request for a Proclamation of Emergency in Oct 2020, consented on Jan 12, 2021, but refused to extend the emergency rule after it ended on August 1, 2021.

And this is the sixth reason why Zahid has pushed, and the moron Sabri has agreed, to call for the general election in the middle of unpredictable heavy rains. King Sultan Abdullah will get all the blames when lives are lost as people would surely question why the monarch was insensitive and agreed to an election at the wrong time. The UMNO politicians would just point their fingers at the monarch.

Sabri would create a new record as the first prime minister whose request to dissolve the Parliament is rejected by the King, who may not wish to become the fall guy if this year’s rainy season turns for the worse. The suspension of UMNO warlord Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Alor Setar UMNO division chief Yusof Ismail was to send a message – Sabri could be suspended if he does not play ball. - FT

cheers.

Ego UMNO - Jom membajiri undi di PRU15....
What is govt trying to prove
in holding GE15 this year?

It is crystal clear now. Umno has decided - via its supreme council - to dissolve Parliament in order to pave way for the 15th general election to be held this year. What message does Umno intend to drive home? Is Umno trying to say that we Malaysians should fully enjoy going to the polls during the monsoon season?

When Umno's secretary-general merely cited Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution in saying that the prime minister would advise the King to dissolve the Parliament, many constitutional experts smell a rat.

Yes, by virtue of Article 40 (1) of our apex law, the King has to act on advice. No one is quarrelling with Umno on that provision. Malaysians have long accepted the doctrine of constitutional monarchy. It is one of the indigenous elements of our supreme law.

What puzzles many constitutional experts is the brazen act of Umno in deliberately withholding other corresponding and cogent provisions duly enshrined in the same highest law of the land namely Article 40(2)(b). Is Umno attempting to mislead the nation?

Article 40(2)(b) is worded as follows "the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) may act in his discretion in the performance of... the withholding of consent to a request for the dissolution of the Parliament." Article 40(2)(b) is as clear as day. What the provision says is what it intends to say. And what it intends to say is what it says. It confers our King almost an absolute discretion to withhold consent to a request by the prime minister to dissolve the Parliament.

Yes, the prime minister has the right to propose the dissolution of Parliament but the YDPA, on the contrary, retains a wide discretion to oppose it. Therein lies the efficacy of the power of discretion. Otherwise, Article 40(2)(b) would be a mere otiose provision.

One who disputes such an enormous discretion duly conferred to the YDPA in Article 40(2)(b) should also, in the same vein, question the discretionary power of the King to appoint a prime minister for the power to appoint a prime minister is also encapsulated in the same article albeit in sub-article (a).

Hence Umno is advised not to blow hot and cold on this matter. Generally speaking, our Constitution recognises the principle of a constitutional monarch which, in essence, enjoins the YDPA to act on advice. Having said that, I also respectfully submit that every general rule is often subject to certain reasonable exceptions.

In our current constitutional make-up, the King is duly empowered to act at his discretion in certain circumstances such as in appointing a prime minister or in withholding consent to dissolve Parliament or declaring an emergency pursuant to Article 150(1) of the Federal Constitution.

We may recall that the YDPA did exercise his discretion in rejecting the proposal to declare an emergency prior to this.I would say that such an inherent and residual power by our King would be extremely vital assuming there is a subtle attempt by some political actors to subvert democracy.

It goes without saying that at present, people are preoccupied with the monsoon season. At any time now till December, our nation may be potentially hit by an imminent danger - a big flood in many flood-prone areas.

As far as Umno is concerned, having a general election during monsoon season is not really a big problem. The Umno president has contended that Umno has no problems carrying out its electoral campaign during a flood season as if an election is merely an electoral campaign alone.

Umno desperately wants to win the election for certain obvious reasons by hoping, inter alia, a low turnout of voters in the election. The party seems to be oblivious to the fundamental right of voters to participate in the election and the duty of the government, in turn, to ensure such a right could be easily exercised.

It is an irony of the first order that a political party which actively participated in betraying the people's mandate via the "Sheraton Move", has the audacity to parrot the words "people's mandate".

The idea of proposing to dissolve Parliament - like it or not - is viewed to serve Umno's vested interest only. Period. - Mohd Hanipa Maidin

I personally think someone who was in Umno for decades but waited until he got sacked to go "I'm now free to talk about corruption in Umno" should be nowhere near the rakyat's mandate. - Amirul Ruslan

Let him be the strategist and not MP - IKQY

Kalau ambik jugak bekas UMNO, maknanya PH bodoh.- Psikologi Songsang

Rakyat ni tahu ke Zaharin ni siapa? Opportunis masa Umno. Level AJK Flat Perumahan je.- Mr.Right

Lepas menang atas tiket PH dia lepak lah mana2 hotel dengan Wak Ponorogo, Maslan Nasi Goreng guling balik kerajaan pilihan rakyat.- Wakandabay

cheers.
